Steroidsmaximum pointed to possible justifications they might have for requiring this test....I offered another one. Thats not defending anything or taking a position fidel...good lord... 
I did say that medical tests might become more frequent for all teachers working outside of of their own nations....
With the recent problems with communicable diseases (SARS, Avian Flu) and the rising fear of some pandemic...it is safe to assume many countries will require teachers from outside to get a medical check. How is that putting a positive light on Korea. It is just a logical deduction from current events Fidel.
Now, wipe the pie off your face and try to put some more thought into a reply before you make it and stuff your foot in your mouth.  |
Homer, don't try to claim that your original post was not just a continuation of your overall agenda which is paint Korea in a positive light as possible. You're like a modern day evangelist, with Korea as your God and their culture as your scriptures. I don't think any poster here would argue otherwise. |

I am sorry but if you truly believe what you just wrote about some agenda I might have then I do feel sorry for you. I thought you were smarter than this. You want to sink to simplifications and miss-reads, thats your choice.
If you prefer simple, clean cut little simplifications so that you can put people in neat little boxes so that your mind can better deal with things, well who am I to stand in the way of that.

Say what? Your responses and defense of Korea is just as grating to me as the "I hate Korea and everthing in it" crowd. Blind allegiance to an ideal or culture is a dangerous thing. Balance my friend is what you need, to enable you to look at things as to what they are, critiquing both the good and the bad.

No one can be that dumb..its not possible.
If you read my posts you will see that balance is precisely what I aim for. I discuss various perspectives on issues and bring about the flip side of the coin.
Allegiance to an ideal or culture?? Hilarious how simplistic that little argument is. Sorry but you are either trying to be funny or, sadly and more disturbingly, you actually beleive what you are saying about me...let us hope for option 1 here.

| Are health checks required to get a working visa in Korea? I know that they are required in order to get a work permit in Taiwan. |

Not a legal requirement but some public schools and organisations request that you get one.

You seem to use variations on the word "simple" a lot, any particular reason? I don't really want to continue with this, but people on Daves continally call you an "apologist". Do you feel that this categorisation is unfair and that to certain extent you are estranged due to the misconceptions of people on this board? Or does your posting history warrant the apologist label? |

| I work for a private school, and just got a notice from my boss last week, but havent done it yet. I must go to an approved hospital and get a medical examination for blood tests and other things they werent sure about. I asked them what they are looking for, and my boss said just anything that shouldnt be there?? |

At my medical check up a year ago. at an 'approved clinic'... the doc' announced he was 'going to test for marijuana' and did so by looking for needle marks on my arm!! And then it was time for his lunch so ticked all the boxes asked for my approx weight and height (to which i guessed) and that was it.  |

| I just completed my examination. The form given by the central school office asked a lot of weird questions, like if I have bad breath, how my teeth are, when did I go to the dentist last, my family history, and the usual stuff. They took blood and urine. It was a stupid urine taking system, because I had to leave my sample sitting on a table in the restroom, so anyone could have taken it, tampered with it, or used some of it. Totally stupid. The rest was OK. It took an hour. They did a chest x-ray. A dentist looked at my teeth too, but no x-ray. |
