i saw a pretty cheap place in kangnam area (yeah i finally got to korea... bout frickin time). but it's a bit sparse (i could care less). so i need to furnish it with the following items:
fridge (a little baby one's cool)
utility stuff liek internet/cable/etc.
an AC unit (doesn't have one)
bed (korean or western, doesn't matter to me, as long as it's somewhat comfortable)
closet
desk/chair
stove
clothes washer unit
i haven't quite figured out where to buy it, and if i do, how to move that stuff in. any adv/sugg??
yeah i'm new here. pretty obvious huh? |

situations like these are why God made "The Korean Girlfriend" or TKG for short. Sure, you could search through the internet trying to find places that sell all of these individual items, figure out translations for them all, travel around, watch the delivery adjosshis scratch their heads as your give them directions to your place, etc. Or, with the TKG, you can have all of these stuff done for you by somebody who actually speaks That Crazy Language (TCL for short.) Because TKGs are so good at TCL, they can take care of all these problems in a quarter of the time it would take you.
but if you're single, I have 2 words for you: full option. (you thought i was gonna say "lime light" didn't you?) |

| I'm going to overlook the fact that I'm puzzled why you are asking where to buy things you don't care about and move on to tell you where you can buy them if you decide later you do care abou them. Look around your neighborhood (or ask at school) for a used furniture dealer. You can spot most of them by the used refrigerators sitting outside. They will deliver. Make a map and write your address on it. |

| Look in those free newspapers on the street corners. They will have ads from the used furniture places. |

If you're not proud, Koreans throw out all sorts of good stuff when they move out; check the garbage areas. People won't mind because they might actually need to pay to get it removed otherwise.
Check out used stores for reconditioned appliances. My wife got us a fridge and stovetop and washing machine for 200,000.
Home shopping can also be amazingly cheap for desks and tables.

Go to a store and buy them.
Other mind-blowing struggles- ie "How do I open a fridge?" come later. |

behind tongdaemun stadium is a very large used furniture market. they will deliver everything as well for a small fee - the guy delivered my fridge on his motorcycle (and not the baby fridge either!)
first i would check the garbage area around apartments though - you really can find some great items there. |

Your apartment didn't come with a refrigerator or washing machine? Yikes! |

Most Korean apartments don't, but your hogwon director may have bought them to put into your apartment for you.
Probably one of the best sources for used furniture is your fellow expats. Try the buy/sell/trade forum here or the classifieds at Seoul Classified. There are some good deals to be had from teachers that are on their way home, and you can negotiate the whole thing in Englishy. |
