|
|
This, believe it or not, is a boy. He used to come to my old hogwan a few times a week in the afternoon to get an hour with whitey, who happened to be me. I have no idea what kind of school / institution he was in before but that's apparently how they dressed their boys as his brother came in the same outfit. I noticed them crossing themselves sometimes so maybe it was some sort of Roman Catholic institution.
I challenge anyone to find a more outrageous school uniform than this one.
(my wonderful high school students spent 45 minutes teaching me how to download photos from my phone so I was finally able to post this one ... even with kids this ridiculously cute I'm so glad I'm teaching high school now instead )

I'ts not the outfit, it's the hair on that boy...
At my kindergarten, the boys, 4 years old (Korean age!) wear full 3-piece suits -- long-sleeved button collared shirt, proper tie, vest, and 3-button jacket, with matching pants. Apparently, it is so they "understand" the seriousness of kindergarten. They are barely 3 years old (in the ROTW) and in any other country would wear pull up track pants and t-shirts to a preschool playgroup. |

Man. Good thing there are no gay people in Korea or that kid would face a life of wet towel beatings.
There is one school near me where all the wee one dress in little bow ties and jackets with shawl collars. I think it's just a kindergarten only school. These little boys all walk together, from school to home, and they all hold each other and have these looks of fear in their eyes as they all stumble along the street together. It's darn cute.
Some of my older students were making fun of another boy. "Your uniform makes you look like a waiter!" It was so true. |

The local middle school students who go to my hagwon all look like 1960s mods thanks to their uniforms. Some days it's like a Korean Quadrophenia |

Lots of Japanese boys wear these black blazer/pant combos with white Adidas sneakers. Your first thought is "wow, Run DMC is HUGE here". |

The blazer / vest / blouse / tie / skirt with ankle socks and bright (or tattered) sneakers my high school students wear never ceases to make me laugh. If they're going to go so far, can't they at least get a pair of cheap black shoes that look somewhat dressy? (not that they wear shoes in school, at any rate). I also like how the ones who hate wearing skirts will change into school track pants right after homeroom block. Then they'll walk around in a dark grey blazer and vest with blouse and tie ... and blue track pants. And nobody thinks this looks ridiculous. |

If they're going to dress up little tykes like that my only thought is ... get out the crayons and glue and paints, hand out the soft, runny chocolates, have them rolling around on the floor, and get them as dirty as possible. |

My (kindergarten) hagwon has uniforms a lot like that. Little blue plaid skirts or shorts with a jacket. Since it's cold, all the kids including boys wear tights under their skirts/shorts. It's really hard to take a troublemaker seriously when he's dressed like that. |

Cold. It is not Cold ... Cool yes .... Cold no ...
I would wear shorts to work if it were not allowed to.
The point of "short pants" as a school uniform is discipline.
It is not below zero. The Kids will not die .. or be hurt.
If Korean mothers are giving thier sons "tights" the next generation of Korean will become even softer then the sniviling children that we deal with now. |

The runners look kind of cute. I can't figure out why more girls don't get out of their uniform ASAP. Other than possible free cab rides from horny old taxi drivers, why do they spend their Saturday nights wearing their school uniform? When I was in catholic school, we were out of our uniforms the very first second we could. |

Well, by "we" I mean primarily the females as they had a more onerous uniform (plaid skirt, white blouse, thong underwear, stiletto heels). So, feel free to be aroused. Us boys mostly just had to wear grey pants and a collared shirt. But still we hated it! |
