Came over to install some equipment in '96. Left six months later.

Came back for the girl shortly thereafter !

Brought the girl home in 2000.

Graduated with a Bachelor's from American uni in 1996 on 10-year plan. Studied French and Spanish which could really rake in the dough. Surprised

Putted around my hometown working entry-level jobs and relocated to Colorado 3 years ago.

Lived 10 minutes from 2 ski resorts and barely scraped by paying expensive rent and aquiring debt while paying student loans.

Was a part-time substitute there but didn't have a license to be a full-time teacher in the States.

Always dreamt about teaching abroad. Became interested in Asia in 1997 but didn't know about the crisis. Started browsing Dave's Cafe from about that time.

In November of last year finally made the move! Happy as ever.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I was working for the US government in Puerto Rico. The weather was great and the beaches were beautiful but I got tired of, and frightened by, the crime. So I clicked on the link above and found my way to good ol' Korea.

Was working at a job at a Crisis Center/DA's Office in North Carolina and I wanted out! I applied to different teaching programs overseas and some Master's programs in the States and ended up going with Korea.

My first trip to Korea was back in 1991 - as a 'showgirl' Embarassed Feathers, spangles, the lot - very glitzy!!!! I was part of a 4 person dance troupe doing shows on Cheju-do and in nightclubs throughout Seoul. I only lasted 3 months though - not really my scene. Most of the clubs were run by Korean mafia - come to think of it, they were alot easier to deal with than hakwon directors Confused Overall, it was an interesting experience but once I would never want to repeat.

1996 - I was 29, in my last semester at USF. I read an ad in the USF newspaper, went to meet the prof. He introduced me to the hiring manager at Halla Heavy Industries and next thing I knew I was on the plane to Korea.

It was a great job. I'd have stayed if Halla didn't have so much difficulty during the IMF (International Monetary Fund) crisis in 97-98.

2005 - total disaster, life a complete mess. My problems last year would've made a lesser man take his own life.

Got a great job in Korea by accident. I was even purposely rude to my interviewer!

retired a few years ago. spent a couple of years riding my scoot, playing pool, drinking beer, and chasing girls. No direction. Wanted to learn another language, and keep busy. I've worked here before, I like the country, and it's close to home.

The French company I was then working for said

"You're going to Korea on the KTX project, here's a one-way business class ticket and a D8 visa".
