Does anyone know for sure if the education government controls how much a kongbu bang (study room) or a registered private teacher "" can charge its students? This is the case with hagwons.
If so, what are the rates? And does it depend on the location? |

Okay so I went to the main branch of the Ministry of Education today with the wife and they told me various negatives - can't own it and can't work for my wife if she owns it... huh?
She called Immigration and spoke with a high-ranking officer who said "they only I can tell you is he can do whatever he wants. But if Education says no I can't help you." WTF!?
Came home. Called another branch of Education and they said, "what? Ok, we'll call that branch to inform them that they're wrong..."

Update! No not really. Well kind of. Dealing with these ***holes makes me go crazy. The word from other Board of Education offices in Busan: no.
So we got our guy in Seoul who said, "yes it's possible" with our local office (Eastern Busan) and get this: he lied. "I never said that." So even though they are apparently granting permission for this in Seoul. Not in Busan. No sirree. Foreigners are not allowed to teach privates in Busan. Under any circumstances. Not even working for their spouse. Nothing.
So, the only thing we can do now is hire a business lawyer who can stick it to these guys, out-legalspeaking those racists who refuse to give me the certificate that the F-2 changes were supposed to be all about.
The other alternative is to get permission from my next employer to do privates on my own time. A workaround, so to speak. Since I am currently looking for work, this may very well be an option... but if I recall correctly, this is an option for E-2s anyway.
