Are Koreans really this debased...and insane? Korean Politicians actually are refusing to play soccer against Japanese politicians that have EVER visited a shire dedicated to their OWN dead soldiers in their OWN country!

http://in.today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=worldNews&storyID=2005-11-09T164720Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-222710-1.xml&archived=False

"...cancelled a trip to South Korea to play a soccer game after the South Korean side asked that those who had visited a Tokyo shrine for war dead refrain from taking part..."

"Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's annual visits to Yasukuni shrine have angered South Korea, which regards the Shinto shrine as a symbol of Japan's past militarism."

"...the South Korean side asked Japanese lawmakers who had been to Yasukuni to refrain from making the trip..."

With this juvenile, North Korean-style logic, any breakdown in world peace/order, and Korea will again be Japan's slave labor force as soon as opportunity allows.

This is just disturbing, as clearly this is insane.

I think it's called posturing for political gain at home.

Although,

Wouldn't it kinda be like Israel refusing to play a friendly with Germans who visited a shrine to the Nazis?

The Japanese did some really rotten stuff to the Koreans.

The Japanese leaders pay their respects to a shrine that holds convicted class A war criminals. I can understand why the Koreans are so furious about it.

The shrine is to all Japanese war dead, the vast majority of whom were ordinary soldiers. Are the Japanese not allowed to remember their dead?

Anyway, very petty behaviour indeed.

You're not seriously comparing Nazi treatment of the Jews, to the Japanese colonisation of Korea are you?

No doubt petty behavior. I guess when you're out-numbered, out-gunned, and so out-dollared, all you've got is the passive-aggressiveness to get back at your former colonizers. I feel for the Koreans on this one though. They never provoked the Japanese for all the harsh treatment. I don't have enough facts to debate the pros/cons of the colonialization but the Japanese did get away with some brutal stuff.

How about live and let live? The French managed it. The Indians managed it. Both were occupied and don't engage in such behaviour towards their former occupiers. Japan has apologised many times, and has paid compensation. The fact is the Koreans want any excuse to bash the Japanese, and nothing the Japanese can do will make any difference.

Trouble is, such behaviour does not endear you to anyone and merely makes you look like a petulant child.

Well, I guess not the whole genocide aspect of it...

But, I would say that the Koreans feel the same way toward the Japanese as the Jews do toward the Nazis.

Which brings me to my next question: Have there been any football hooligan clashes between the Korea supporters and the Japanese?

The Japanese are worshipping war criminals along with the rest of their war dead. Don't forget how they treated our POWs - the veterans don't.

Well, not quite, since Nazism is an ideology that has as one of its defining components the violent persecution of Jews. Whereas Japan is a country, not specifically defined by the persecution of Koreans.

I know quite a few Koreans who have visited or lived in Japan, study the Japanese language, express admiration for Japanese culture, etc. But I don't think you'd find more than a few dozen Jews(if that) in the whole world who have any similar attraction to Nazism.

Now, if you substituted the word "Germans" for "Nazis" in your statement, you might be closer to the mark.

We shouldn't, but neither do we kick up a fuss every time Koizumi visits the shrine, unlike the Koreans.

The war finished a long time ago, and it is time to move on.

It is time to move on... for both sides. It's just a tad more difficult when you were the one taking the punches.... and the ref was biased.... and you realize you'll never ever have another shot.
