aaysc, your friend screwed up terrifically. I don't need to say anything more about that.
Nobody here seems to have the answers your friend needs. Even if someone did, I don't know how much faith I'd place in the hearsay of a stranger on a messageboard. Obviously this is an extremely serious situation for your friend and he wants iron-clad answers before he makes his next move. But this is Korea and we all know how very little here is ever "iron-clad". (I mean, c'mon, they still haven't found one single turtleship to substantiate the written accounts.)
If I were you or your friend, I'd find a reliable, trustworthy Korean living in Korea who will ask on my behalf (though never mentioning my name) all of the right people & agencies all of the right questions. Then take it from there. And even then, they will probably not be able to give him hard & fast answers, but what else can you do? It won't be a terribly easy or pleasant first step to resolving this mess, but with a tab like W15 million, pleasure has nothing to do with it. In a sense, that's not a staggering figure by local standards. But given that it's all on plastic and in a foreigner's name (who I presume has no assets in Korea or means of borrowing that sum), that's an extraordinary amount indeed.
I can see a possible Catch-22. Immigration may want to hold him until someone in Canada "buys" his freedom. I can see his Korean creditors wanting him out and working off his debt. And I can see a Korean employer freaking over all of this. Still, get your Korean confidante and get some answers, however iffy. Then let your friend decide which way forward. I'd personally like to see him here and working off his debt, and I hope to God he doesn't slither back and somehow manage to shirk his responsibilities. |

Your verbal pyrotechnics are lost, lost I say!, on the Korean business world. You need to chuck it all and get a hakwon job! That is where your future lies. |

Mr Guru this is the best post I have seen you (Heck anyone) make on this board in a long time on personal reponsibility. Well-done sir!
As for your "friend" aaysc he should be horsewhipped. People like him give the rest of us a bad name/ |

Agreed. Your suggestions are much more constructive than mine. |
