Sleepy students perform worse

I hope someone sends Korea (and a few other countries, for that matter) the memo.

Dude ... yah ... Laughing

I was just gonna start a thread for this kinda "NO BRAINER" crap. I can't believe University graduates get paid to study this sorta nonsense. All too absurd.

Talk about stating the obvious eh? Rolling Eyes

Makes me wonder where they get their funding from.

The National Institute of Health: obviously money well spent. Anyone with a little common-sense could have told them the same thing.

Even the obvious needs to be 'scientifically' proven at least once, or we would all still think Jehovah stopped the sun in the sky so the Israelites could defeat the whoever. Clearly He/She/It stopped the Earth spinning and everyone skidded 72 miles west. Obviously, some folks dropped into the salt water and that was the origin of the Atlantis myth. Unless of course the continent of Mu was real and the spacemen really did teach the pre-Incas to draw straight lines in the desert. (Obviously, no pre-19th Century human ever noticed that a string pulled on both ends made a straight line. That is WAY too sophisticated for them.)

To us that was certainly an obvious result. Not for Korea or Japan though.

Well smart kids don't forget what mum and dad said:

"Dont run with scissors"
"Don't eat your boogers"
"Don't eat food off the floor"
"Always say 'please' and dont overuse 'thank you' when 'ta' or thanks' will do"
"Don't use a chainsaw as a toothpick"
"Never trust anyone with a monobrow"
"Dont let an irishman do your drive"

I've ran out of my creative juice now...

Sleeping? Who needs it? It's a hobby of mine I admit but far better to study, study, study, all night and every night to improve your IQ. And high IQ = longer life, therefore sleeping is bad for you!

Scientists actually get paid to reach these profound conclusions, eh? Rolling Eyes

Want to live longer? Think positive thoughts
Mon Feb 27, 4:28 PM ET

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Optimism is good for the heart, a study said on Monday.

The most optimistic among a group of 545 Dutch men age 64 to 84 had a roughly 50 percent lower risk of cardiovascular death over 15 years of follow-up, according to the study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Previous research has suggested being optimistic boosts overall physical health and lowers the risk of death from all causes. A positive attitude also has been shown to help patients who suffer from heart disease caused by narrowed arteries.

At my technical high school there are some sleepy students in every class. But I think that excessive use of and attachment to "handuh pones" (along with MP3 players and video games...) may be just as detrimental to academic performance.

Final exams, going on now, are supposed to be a big deal, and there's reportedly a lot of pressure on students to succeed. When I asked a Korean teacher if students spent much time studying for them she replied "No, hardly any of them study at all. " ... "Don't they want to do well", I asked - "Yes, some of them really want to do well, but they don't study..."

I noticed many cell phones on her desk that she'd confiscated from her students - apparently they rely on sending text messages to each other even during final exams ...
