i have to go to mokdong at 9am on the 21st to get my degree authenticated.

what happens if i just phone them and say "you already have it authenticated and on file, don't waste my time."?

i'd really rather be lifting weights and listening to death metal than sitting in that awful office for an hour.

perusing efl-law right now. i will fill you in on what the experts say.

i think that, with most appeals to higher authority to "please, i implore you, stop being ridiculous and dumb", my refusal would be met with inefficiency and heavy-handedness, ie. deportation or fines.

Yeah I'm going to immigration in Seoul on Thursday... All the foreign teachers in my school have to go. I don't have my original degree here though! Hopefully the one that was notarized by the Korean consulate in Canada and sent to Korea will suffice. What a pain in the ass!

I guess guests in a country, and thus have to follow whatever laws and dictates the local governemt decrees, actually have to do what they're told by the powers that be.

This is a shocking turn of events to be sure!

It's pretty odd. Two weeks ago my boss informed me of the situation and gave me a degree confirmation form to fill in and hand into Immigration. So, the next day I make the one hour trip to Yeosu with my Alien card (always on me), Passport and Degree just in case they want to see all of them. I was not too happy about going as Immigration/the Korean Consulate in Sydney has already seen my degree three times now but decide in the end that I'll just do it to keep Immigration happy since I've got nothing to hide.

I get there, hand in the form. The clerk looks at my Alien card, walks out back for a minute (I presumed it was to check on the computer system) then hands me back my card and that's it. No checking my passport or degree. Just had to hand over that form and pass over my Alien card for a quick check. Seems little a fairly futile waste of time for all involved but I guess their philosophy on this is that if somebody doesn't personally come down to Immigration and hand in that form, then they may have something to hide.

i think i get it now.
I also got that paper.
It made me wonder why can't they just phone my university seems utterly ridiculous.
This guy above says that they aren't even checking the papers? Well geez, what can THAT mean?
Maybe they already KNOW who they're gonna try and weed out and they're just getting everyone to come in and nabbin' them right there (if their names on "the list").

An immigation dude came to my hagwon on Monday or a week ago Friday. Can't remember. Anyway, my boss talked with him for a while in a private room. My boss came out (I was at the photocopier) and grabbed some things. One thing was a FedEx package. Wonder if that was my diploma and transcript (he still has that)? Then the other teacher was called in and she was in there for a while. I asked herabout it after. Her contract is up next month so I guess buddy had some questions about that. My boss told me that buddy was by because he's hiring two Chinese teachers. I thought it might due to the recent developments. Sure enough I was given a form the next day to fill out.

Could he give them my diploma and transcript? My property changing hands without my consent? Hmmm. Guess I should get that back. Maybe I'll ask him for it tomorrow. If he gave it to immigration then it'll give me a good excuse to give him a hard time. I like giving my boss a hard time.
