My friend (Korean, but excellent English) and I are planning a trip in late January. Where should we go? We've got a 2 million won each budget. We'd be ok with a beach for a day, but not much more than that. She gets seasick, so boat trips are out. We're both interested in different cultures.
We want to go somewhere that neither one of us has ever been, so that rules out Thailand, China, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Australia, Switzerland, Greece, and Japan. We're not really fussy about accommodations, but "youth hostels" or anywhere that you have to share a bathroom with others is not for us.
We're not fussy about food and love to try new things...we'll pass on the poultry!!!
We've got 10-14 days.
Any suggestions? |

Tsunami aside, I had a really amazing time in Sri Lanka last year. Lots of history and culture there, fantastically friendly people, and for the kind of money you're talking, you could probably hire a driver to take you to the various places around the country.
There are decent hotels all over the place, because it's a big tourist destination for Northern Europeans. |

How about Athens? Plenty of history to absorb and the beach close-ish of you want a day there. Mind you, Athens can be pretty nippy in January. |

Philippines: Go to the mountains - Baguio, Kabayan, Bontoc, Sagada, Banaue. Walk thru the cloud forests and the rice paddies.
Tanah Toraja. Same deal. Go to funerals. (No kidding, a tourist attraction there with interesting rituals.) This is on the island of Suluwesi, in Indonesia.
Taiwan: Go to Taroko Gorge, Tayuling, way up on the island's spine at higher than any mountains in Korea.
The Himalayas. Trek somewhere where you can survfive, hopefully....
Yunnan, in China. Haven't been there yet but spozed to be real nice. Minority cultures if you've already seen Chinese culture.
Vietnam, all over.
How 'bout Korea? Save on air fare. Visit islands off the south coast. Or go to beautiful Jeomchon. |
