I'm planning a trip to Thailand this winter and came across a tour package on http://www.timemachine.co.kr/english/ that is 2 days in Bangkok and 3 in Phuket. I was wondering if anyone has done a similar type of tour and have any tips or advice?

My thoughts are that once you get to Bangkok you won't feel like leaving 24 hours later especially on another flight. To avoid another flight go to Pattaya. You will have to take a taxi and should be careful finding one to take you there and back to Bangkok. 5 days aint' much. Try too relax and taking a tour of Bangkok might be O.K. The river float sounded cool. Shopping for jewelry, notta! Have a nice trip and watch your belongings the best you can at all times. Go with someone if you can.

If you shop around, different travel agencies often have last-minute tour packages that are faxed in to them. Almost every place has something to Thailand. I lucked out and got one a few years ago, 7 days to Phuket: airfare, hotel, bus tours, and all meals for 280,000 won. (It was during the SARS crisis and nobody was going to Thailand.)

As someone above said, for 5 days you're better off going to just one place, such as Phuket, and staying there; and I'd definitely recommend getting out of Bangkok as fast as possible.

Maybe I'm biased...I've been to Bangkok 4 times now (my brother lives there), and although Khao San Road is interesting and there are some great temples and restaurants, I find Bangkok to be just too hot, noisy, crowded, and polluted. The bus or taxi ride in from the airport is a LONG trip, and Sukhumwit road, where many tourists seem to hang out, is just polluted and tacky. I haven't been to any other big cities, but the beaches and the countryside are much nicer. I can't recommend any particular travel agent, but just about any one that has English speaking staff can probably set you up with a nice trip.

http://www.tourvacationstogo.com have a lot of different tours, although you would have to book the airfares separately here in Korea. The plus is that the tour would be all in English.

5 days in Bangkok would be fine. You could veiw a bunch of temples, get massages, try the food and go to the markets.

I think if it were any longer, it would be better to split up the trip between Bangkok and another location in Thailand, but for your first trip there and for 5 days, it should be fine and lots of fun!

Koh-San road is a good place to center yourself from. Tons of guest houses and they are even travel agencies that will set up "around Bangkok tours" if you want to go that route. The street food is good (I never got sick) and really cheap. I think you can find plenty to do for your 5 days...probably 2 of those are "in and out" days going to/from the airport anyway.
