have given up on the overpriced POS fares the Korean travel agents are giving me for Phuket or Krabi or KL or whatever...so the plan is to just fly to BKK and make my own travel arrangements with domestic airlines.

Is this smart or are those domestic flights overboooked as hell too? (I have two weeks btw...and all i want is beautiful beaches, islands, drinks, massages. I am offcially 'templed out'....)

Any and all suggestions would be great.

I always go to BKK. I don't know how tight for time you are but I over night take VIP buses. They leave in the evening and the terminal they leave from is really close to KSR.

How much are they saying for Phuket, etc.?

Depending on how you are for time I'd be inclined to just buy what is absolutely necessary in Korea and deny the agents here the business.
For the most part they don't deserve it.
Give the Thais the commission instead.
Do you have a credit card..? You might want to try AirAsia etc.

Although I agree with the others about giving your money to the Thai economy instead of here (not anything against Korea, but I just HATE the way their travel agents operate) --

BUT when I was working in BKK we waited until the beginning of Dec to book a flight from BKK to Chiang Mai, and we were SOL. You could try checking with Oriental Thai Airways online and seeing what the availability is for that time period.

There are a LOT of falangs in BKK who get extensive Christmas holidays from their employers.....

i got quoted about 600,000 to BKK and 740,000 to Phuket with Xanadu which despite its nice ratings here on this board, I think is SH!T and way overpriced. Am trying to find some wholesale tickets and have succeed with shoestring.

The bus recommendation sounds like a good alternative. So far, the thai domestic airlines i've checked are very reasonable and not booked yet. Not too worried as we have two weeks...but still...the way availability evaporates here....

Once I have my tickets Ill be back on this board to annoy you about nice secluded places not swarming with lady-boys trying to ease on up on my dear boyfriend for a Western passport.

It seems like everything is over-priced this season.. I bought a one-year open-ticket to Manila for 711,000 won.. would have been cheaper to do a 15-day ticket.. but not what I needed.

I just got my return ticket to Bangkok from Xanadu, cost me 631,000Won including tax. Very expensive but I just need to get away from here for a few days over the new year so felt it was worth the money. I wanted to try out Shoestring but never got around to finding the place and then I tried to go to Top travel but it's closed on a saturday and finally when I called up Freedom travel in Euljiro, they said that prices for flights to Bangkok hadn't been set yet Strange considering I have my Thai Airlines ticket resting peacefully on my shelf at home.

As for the agents over-charging the OP..I agree that he should just go around them and go to BK on his own and book from there. We did that last year to go to Ko Samui and it ended up being cheaper.

Got a special promotional roundtrip to singapore for about 550,000 online.

Such as shocker as the travel agencies told me that they didnt have the prices out yet and there were no specials for sing.....

The Korean travel agencies, especially Xanadu, take the cake with deceiving their customers and trying to squeze every red cent out of you.
Am I the only one that finds Xanadu a bit rude? It must be because they have so much business that one disgruntled way-gook-in doesn't much matter.

So anyway, here's the deal...if anyone can help or give advice. We're going to Sing, taking a train to KL the same day, spending a day in KL, going up to Phuket...hanging out there...Phang Nga and Krabi too and whatever....ending back up in Singapore for New Years.

so I was thinking...should we cut Phuket a bit short for something else in Malaysia? Is it worth it?

Keep in mind NO TEMPLES, NO MUSEUMS, NO LEARNING, NO CULTURE.

Just beach, diving, cave kayaking, snorkeling, eating, looking at wildlife, rainforests, and waterfalls. Pure relaxation.

Any bit would help a lot.
