This from their site:

If you would like to receive online discount, you must make reservation and purchase ticket solely online. Thus, please make payment with credit card at below.
The use of overseas issued credit cards have been temporarily suspended for safety reasons.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

There is nothing unusual in this. Try to use your Korean card to buy a ticket from www.expedia.com or www.expedia.co.uk or www.priceline.com etc etc.

An Australian friend called the Asiana operator to enquire about a flight and she managed to get the internet fare. I'm pretty sure she would've used her non-Korean credit card to pay.
Call Asiana (you press a number for English operator) and see what you can get....

Wow it kind of really defeats the whole purpose of having an international credit card syndicate called Visa and Mastercard.

This is not a fair comparison. Most of us come from a real country with a financial and banking system that's not a total joke.

Perfectly fair: try and buy an online ticket in USA with a foreign credit card.

If I were an American company, I wouldn't accept Korean cards either.

I don't trust Korean companies as far as I can throw an anvil.

Ok ilsanman..so why would Korean companies trust foreign credit? Because foreign credit is automatically better?

The door does swing both ways here....

Let me make my comment simpler.

American travel websites that I have tried to use accept only American cards.

This is not a good choice of subject for bi.tching about Korea. Move on.

(And, FWIW, departure must be from an American airport).

Homer, you are right: that is after all what credit means: "he believes".

The door has already been swung at me in the opposite direction, so nothing new for me. My foreign card has been rejected by Asiana (no coincidence there) and also, I can't take advantage of the 3 month payment thingie that some companies do.

Thats too bad ilsanman.

Then again, it is their right to refuse foreign credit. They are far (sadly so) from alone in doing this.....

In Bucktooth, Alabama, or some little place somewhere, a small independent business refuses a foreign credit card. I understand 100%.

Asiana, an 'international' or at least regional airline refuses a foreign card from a 1st world nation, in the 'hub of Asia'. I don't understand.

Do you understand www.expedia.com refusing non-US credit cards?

That is the same.
