I only get to watch snippets of CNN between classes but it looks pretty dire in the Pakistan/India quake area. Has anyone on here donated? Are there any"reputable" charities?

I tried to log onto their website but it's still under construction. This is unfortunate as i've put together 4 bags of USED CLOTHES inc. socks, shirts, sweaters, pants, gloves, ear muffs, hats etc.
Y'know, it's funny too: once i started going through my things it was amazing how quickly i saw how the needs of others greatly outweighed my own. As with Katrina, many of these poor souls have lost absolutely everything, including in many cases their entire families.
There's approximately 3.5 million in this region currently homeless. A lot more are going to die as the temperature drops over the next 4-5 weeks.
If we act now something can be done here!
El President-ay Musharaf has apparently given his personal assurance that any donations dropped off at Pakistan's Embassies will be forwarded to victims of this devastating disaster. 
Talk to your friends & family about this. Try to stress to them the urgency of the situation. Spread the word, talk to your friends & fire off a few emails.
As it is i'm calling the Embassy here in South Korea tomorrow |

| Even if we're not in a position to help - or don't trust politicians involved - we can at least meditate on helping suffering children and families overcome their misery, and there's some spiritual benefit from that ... |

Well, although i'm sure those still struggling to stay alive over the next few weeks would more appreciate receiving our recycled clothes, the cosmick compassion angle is likely better than nothing.

Go through your things & take all non-essentials to the Embassy. Lightening your material load tends to be quite liberating. In ZEN terms it's referred to as "Walking the Bird's Path".
The wife & i ended up with 6 BAGS!!! Added a bonus roll of T_Paper to each goodie package.
The staff at the Embassy were REALLY appreciative!!!
Every little bit helps, and with winter quickly setting in the window of opportunity is quickly closing. |

Ok ...
Just got word from a friend there's going to be a gathering sponsored by Seoul Artists' Network Sunday Night at the Woodstock Bar in Itaewon starting at 8 P.M. If you've never been there it's apparently just a few minutes walking distance from the subway.
All are said to be welcome. Bring all your USED CLOTHES, along with whatever spare medicine etc. you can muster. If you yourself can't make it, simply take a few moments to inform your friends.
Along with misc. music & poetry readings, a rep. from the Pakistani Embassy is also supposed to be attending.
Regardless of what you have to offer, bear in mind even the smallest gestures of charity stand to provide comfort & help to ease the suffering of others.
Spread the word !!! |
