Things continue to worsen for Bush and co:

Hawkish Democrat Says time to bring the troops home

The pathetic thing is the Bush administration is saying it is sad that such a respected Congressman has now fallen in line with Michael Moore and company. Now honestly, who knows more about military situations: any of those dumb asses who haven't ever served in the military (Rumsfeld excluded) or a man who served a couple decades in the Marines? TOUGH CALL.

I'm happy the man singled out Cheney as being a wimp.

Quote:
The comments by the Pennsylvania lawmaker, who has spent three decades in the House, hold particular weight because he is close to many military commanders and has enormous credibility with his colleagues on defense issues. He voted for the war in 2002, and remains the top Democrat on the House Appropriations defense subcommittee.

"Our troops have become the primary target of the insurgency. They are united against U.S. forces and we have become a catalyst for violence," he said. "The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion."

In a biting response, Republicans criticized Murtha's position as one of abandonment and surrender and accused Democrats of playing politics with the war and recklessly pushing a "cut and run" strategy.

The Bushies are all over John Murtha. Instapundit says Murtha's been saying "basically the same thing" for over a year. That depends on what the meaning of the word "basically" is. Murtha's own statement contains the sentences:

For two and a half years I have been concerned about the U.S. policy and the plan in Iraq. I have addressed my concerns with the Administration and the Pentagon and have spoken out in public about my concerns.

The difference - and surely it's a relevant one - is that Murtha is now calling for withdrawal of troops the same week the Senate went wobbly. It seems to me it would be more helpful if Republicans and conservatives offered positive arguments for how to do better instead of attacking every critic as a wuss, unpatriotic, inconsistent, or worse. Murtha spent 37 years in the Marines. He voted for the war. But, unlike some, he kept his eyes open and he's reflecting genuine, real, patriotic worries about the war among many Americans. If he's worried, we all should be. It doesn't speak very well of the pro-Bush right that their first instinct is to ignore him and their second to dismiss him. But it's no big surprise by now, is it?

definition of a b-itch:

Quote:
The fiery, emotional debate climaxed when Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio, the most junior member of the House, told of a phone call she received from a Marine colonel.

"He asked me to send Congress a message — stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message — that cowards cut and run, Marines never do," Schmidt said

Who the hell does she think she is? Some dumb ass beotch dissing a former marine? No respect whatsoever.

From Yahoo News:

At one point in the emotional debate, Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio, told of a phone call she received from a Marine colonel.

"He asked me to send Congress a message stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message that cowards cut and run, Marines never do," Schmidt said. Murtha is a 37-year Marine veteran.

Democrats booed and shouted her down causing the House to come to a standstill.

As it turns out, that Marine colonel is another Republican member of the House of Representatives. Not, as she probably wants you to think, a currently serving Marine who took time out of his busy freedom-spreading schedule to send a message to America.
