Has anyone ever bought one from Korea?
What routes did you take? I have seen it advertised in the Korea Times, but never met anyone who bought one. |

I'd be interested to know too. Would U need a return ticket to your "country of origin" as well, if flying from Seoul? |

I'm planning an incredible round-the-worl trip in three years time so I too would like any first hand accounts. |

I've never done one from Korea, but I have planned a few from Africa using www.airtreks.com. I just looked at their interactive planner and you can fly out from Seoul and end in the destination of choice. A 10 city trip starting in seoul and hitting a lot of places was around 2400 USD |

For round-the-world tickets there are three options. It mainly depends on which airlines (and their associated airline alliance) you intend to utilise the most:
SKYTEAM ALLIANCE:
Aeromexico, Air France, KLM, Alitalia, Continental, Czech Airlines, Delta, Korean Air, North West and (soon) Aeroflot.
STAR ALLIANCE:
Air Canada, Air NZ, ANA, Asiana, Austrian, bmi, Lot, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Spanair, TAP, Thai Airways, United, US Airways, Varig.
ONE WORLD ALLIANCE:
Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, LanChile, Qantas and (soon) Japan airlines.
They are all about the same in terms of price. Including all taxes - you are looking at between 3.0 - 3.5 million won. That would get you about 7-10 stops in 4 continents. The number of stops could increase if you flew shorter sectors (it is calculated on the number miles used).
Be wary of Korean travel agents who advertise RTW prices under 3 million won. If this is the case - they probably aren't including the price of taxes and (any additional) fuel surcharges which may currently apply. |

Why not just fly to Bangkok and get them there. You'd save time and sanity I think. Bangkok is the hub of travel. |

I've known a number of North Amerians who've done them between contracts.
Good way to see another country or two as well as going to the home country.
(The less stopovers and more major the destination cities, the less money the RTW tickets cost). So usually I've seen in something like Middle East to Europe to North America back to Korea. |

I'm with Star Alliance, and the way it works is the miles you "buy" are the miles you get crdited.
Information on Star Alliance RTW from Korea. |

But, one way or the other, nobody who's posted here has done it. It seems to be a well known program but I've never met anyone who has done this, at least that I'm aware. I'm considering it for 2007 though. |

I used a RTW ticket from Star Alliance in 2002, we did fly west though and lost a day (but I had to start from Europe and wanted to finish in Korea for my wedding).
You can take any route as long as you stay within the mileage and there are Star Alliance flights to the places you want to visit, and no back-tracking allowed.
We did Brussels-(London)-Vancouver-Nadi-Auckland-Melbourne-Singapore-Shanghai (overland)-Beijing-(Tokyo)-Seoul-(Frankfurt)-Brussels.
The total mileage was something like 28970 (out of 29000 miles we could use). The only negative thing about the Star Alliance ticket is that the total mileage also includes overland travel (in our case Shanghai-Beijing).
Ah, and you do get mileage for the flights too.
I didn't buy the ticket in Korea though (didn't buy it at all - my sis and won it through an online quiz from a travel agency ) |

I did an around-the-world trip in 2000, with Asia Miles. I took Business Class, which I would highly recommend to anyone else (Lots of time in airports, and the lounges are a big plus!!). I think the price was around 2.4 million (maybe 3.2- I forget). The main airlines were Cathay, British Airways, and American Airlines. Three continents, with 3 cities each.
Seoul to Taipei to Hong Kong to Prague to Madrid (overland) to Barcelona to London to Chicago to Portland, Oregon to Seoul.
Many of these were not direct, and I would caution everyone to be very flexible with where you want to go. Logistics on your original plan may be impossible, and I probably went into the travel agency 10 times with changes.
Leaving from Seoul, its best to fly west. You will probably fly through Hong Kong and London regardless of your plan.
