Something I only just noticed - there was no rioting in Marseille, despite it being one of the biggest (or the biggest?) Muslim city in France. And, from what I've read, tensions are rather lower there than in other places in France with fewer Muslims.

Thats because they're all muslims.

The only place in France there's a majority of Muslims is in the prison system.

Make of that what you will. It's a Saturday night, I've finished work, I'm going to have a beer.

Ya beat me to the punch, Mith. But just to give Rapier a lesson in doing on-line research:

Quote:
One measure of the religious diversity of this city of 800,000 people - among them 80,000 Jews and 150,000 Muslims - is that the once overwhelming number of Christian churches has been joined by 35 synagogues and 51 small mosques, even though many are just modest, makeshift prayer halls.

That's from the New York Times.

Well bugger me, you are the king of the internet forum retards club. Congrats. Rolling Eyes

You came out of nowhere and decided to take personal offence at my opinions. instead of sticking to debating the issue, you predictably start resorting to name calling because you can't prove your points or present a winning argument.

i'd say you're about ready to join my fan club. The likes of bulsajo, Bucheon bum, manner of speaking,Yata boy and all other dudes who can't debate rationally are all there to keep you company.

The day you offer rational debate is the day I run nude through Itaewon.

I'd give you Singapore, and I can't say I know much about the African nations mentioned. However, I don't think the US or Canada should even be mentioned as the muslim populations there are very small. In countries like France, the Netherlands, Britain and Sweden the muslim population forms a larger percentage of the population and is hence, more problematic. I would expect Canada to experience the same problems with Islamic intolerance when the muslim population gets larger and starts to grow in confidence.

From the Economist this week:

Indeed, the 300,000 [Arabs] living in the Detroit metropolitan area comprise the largest concentrated Arab community outside North Africa and the Middle East.

A couple years ago both the CEO of ford and the president of the United Auto Workers were Arab American. How 's that for integration?

But aren't the majority of Arabs in the USA actually Christians? I remember reading that somewhere. Perhaps I am wrong. Of course, the nature of muslim immigration is not the same in every country. If it is small scale, and middle class then you will not have the same problems of large scale, poor immigration that Europe has been experiencing. I don't know much about muslim immigration to the States, but it would be interesting to know the class breakdown of those immigrants. In the UK, most of our muslim immigrants are from poor, backward areas of Pakistan and Bangladesh, and hence we may have different problems than the USA. Also, it is much easier for an Arab to become American, than an Arab to become Dutch or Italian. European identities are tied to ethnicity and race, which makes integration more difficult.

The leader of the Muslim Council of Britain, Iqbal Sacranie, boycotted Holocaust Memorial Day because it was not 'inclusive' enough, and said of Salman Rushdie, 'perhaps death is too good for him'. How's that for integration?

So, if arabs lounge around in the ghettoes burning cars and cursing the broader culture, you don't like it. But when they enter the broader culture and try to make a contribution playing by the rules, you don't like that either.

Hmm. Rapier, or the CEO of Ford. Wonder who I have more respect for. Real toss-up there.

More integration from the UK:-

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005550268,00.html

A TEACHER whose brother was a suicide bomber told pupils after 9/11: I am on Osama Bin Ladens team.

Parveen Sharif, 37, asked other schoolkids: Hands up everybody who has got relations in New York?

She added: Well theyre dead.

Supply teacher Parveen made more pro-Bin Laden remarks to a class of 30 nine and ten-year-olds at Grampian School, Derby, on September 25.

Three were so upset their parents complained.

The school told Parveens agency not to send her again.

Sue Penglase, headmistress at the time, recalled: The comments were totally inappropriate. We did not want this woman back.

This woman has been recently acquitted of inciting her brother to terrorism, even though she sent him an email a week before the attack in Israel, which said this:-

The following day Sharif's sister, Parveen, wrote an e-mail which said: "Don't worry about Tahira and the kids. Stay focused and determined. You have no time for emotions."

Zahid Sharif read out a statement on behalf of himself and his sister outside the court.

He said: "We want to make it clear we did not know what our brother was going to do.

Of course you didn't! I'm sure you, like the overwhelming majority of muslims, are 'moderate' folk.
