If a school teaches mostly children and an applicant prefers adults to the point of mentioning it, knowing that the school teaches mostly children, then yes, it is a good predictor of problems down the road. The interviewer should follow up with some additional questions about teaching children, given the reality of the situation, and if the applicant doesn't see the light and give some indication of a desire to teach the kiddies, then weeding him out would be appropriate and wise.
