Ok... I need to find the following items, really I can't imagine life without them, atleast once or twice a month:
Marsala Wine
Gorgonzola Cheese
Oregano
Mustard Seed
Parsley
Basil (fresh if possible)
Bay Leaves
Romano Cheese
I'm pretty sure the local Walmart (i'm in Pohang) will have a few of the spices... but not the Marsala wine (which is an absolute must), and certainly not the gorgonzola (a lesser degree of must have). |

marsala is impossible to find! gorgonzola can be found in Emart 8000won
oregano can be found in costco
basil you have to grow your own.. but its not impossibe im sure there is a seller somewhere.
parsley all over the place!
bay leaves also all over the place..
romano cheese.. can find similar in costco..
IM an Italian been living here 8 years on and off..
was in torino visiting my family last month and I can tell you
I didnt want to leave!! the cheese and salami selection just kills me!!
was telling my uncles while eating the cheese "impossibile mangiare questo in Corea del sud"
my uncle just looked at me like I was a freak!
I was hovering over it like a peasant eating a slice of bread hahaaha
also why do you need the marsala so bad??
you making chicken marsala?
POHANG.. might be best to take a trip to pusan
or just order it online from abroad and then you will be sweet as marsala! |

Do you have like a 5-day market in your area? By that, it means you have the regular market place, but on every fifth day (my area, every 5th and 10th day; another area in same city every 6th and 11th, etc) there are extra vendors selling other stuff off their trucks, like clothes, fish, basketware, pots, etc.. (they just drive around and set up shop every day).
ANYWAY, you might be lucky to find a fresh herb truck guy -- here, he sells two potted herbs for 3000won - last time I saw him he was actually outside my school (but usually by the main town market, so maybe he ain't a travelling market man like I just waffled on about); he had thyme, rosemary, oregano, lavender... all the good stuff.
So keep an eye out! |

ya, I've pretty much given up on Italian cooking since I've come over here ...
I love cooking and everything but it's too hard to find ingredients for Italian food.
... Korean food is absolutely delicious though, so I'm not too worried |

Spices all over in Juk do market, go in by the big sign. The spices are down a passageway to your right as you face Posco and the river with the big Juk do market sign behind you. Other Italian goodies can be bought at Mega Mart, in E-dong, near Postech. Wal-mart selection is limited but do have th best wine selection in Pohang. Emart, bus 200 across the river, just past POSCO on the right has gorganzola and other cheeses. The bakery their is better than wal mart

| You do know that it only takes about 5 minutes to make your own Italian sausage, don't you? As long as you have the right spices (which you can get) it's a snap. |

if you come to seoul.....im pretty sure i saw marsala wine at hannam market. it has a lot of foreign products (at high prices, of course). maybe someone else can vouch for me, but im 95% sure they do. they also have a lot of cheeses.
i'll check my local supermarket too. they have some impossible-to-find items.
btw, feel free to invite all italians in seoul to pohang for a feast. i do love korean food, but there's a certain comfort in fresh italien food : ) |

Viva Italia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a pasta and pizza freak! A Japanese friend of mine brought me some Parmesan cheese about a month ago and I'm trying to make it last as long as possible That stuff is just too damn expensive to eat up so quickly, though I could quite easily eat a whole piece in a day.
Can anyone recommend a very very good Italian restaurant with authentic Italian food in Seoul? And are there any stores that specialise in Italian food products? |

La Tavola in Itaewon is as close to authentic as I've had so far. I did read something in K-Scene about a new restaurant that is owned and operated by two Italians, but I can't remember the name or location. |

I have never heard of an Italian restaurant owned and operated by Italians.. I think you are mistaken..
perhaps you mean.. PUCCINI which is managed my Antonio who use to be at LA tavola..
there are of course a couple Italian chefs at hotel restaurants..
if you are sure you read in KSCENE that 2 Italians own a restaurant in seoul I would love to know more about it...
if these guys are real Italians they are keeping it quiet becuase I have heard nothing from the Italian embassy news letter ... |

of course chicken marsala... my family hails from marsala... it is the finest of all foods, and truly i believe that if there is a heaven... everyone sits about and only eats it...
damn i could drink that sauce out of a cup... who needs the chicken anyway? but the real reason i want to find some is so that i can cook it and take it to school. two days ago i made deviled eggs, wow... you'd think korean men dont cook or something |

| Emart does have basil once in a while. At least the Jeju Emart does. It is rare, but keep an eye out for it. |

You've got to be joking. La Tavola is nothing more than a cash rape hole managed by a lame Frenchman who is extremely skilled at minimising portions and marking up everything on the menu by about 250 percent. The only thing "authentic" about that joint is the Italian cook, that's 'cook' not 'chef' by the way. I'm told this culinary whiz gave up a highly-lucrative gig cooking kebabs on the street outside a park in Rome to serve up mocktalian in Itaewon. |
