It's been a while. Anyone know if it's going to get made? Although it looks to be a cinematic abortion, I hope it gets made for the sole fact that the world deserves to see Kelly Hu as Vanilla Manilla. And wasn't Mira Sorvino supposed to be in this, too? Anyone remember Mia Sorvino?

Quote:
A unique caper in the vein of Ocean's 11 meets Lost in Translation. Jeremy Keller a wayward college graduate goes to Korea to teach English to 10 year-olds. Immediately he falls in with a group of eccletic expatriates - Casey surf-slacker from Nebraska who now teaches English; Mark, a washed-up pro ball player with a gambling addiction; Albert, Mark's Korean-Canadian translator; Ian, an outrageous British DJ; and Vanilla Manilla, a sexy nightclub diva stuck in a low-rent club. Jeremy is quickly lured into the darkly seductive underworld of Pusan, the modern Casablanca. When they discover Korean gangsters never carry guns, they hatch an outrageous plan - to rob them.

If I made a movie about life in Korea, it would be the story of last year's Spectrumgate.

Too bad about Jared Leto rejecting the role. He could have pulled off that 'Wow, this really is the modern Casablanca!' thing quite well.

Place your bets early, people.

I'm betting Koreans hate the movie and will boycott & protest it. I read no more than one sentence into the synopsis, yet I feel this is the soundest wager I'll ever make in my life.

wasnt it suppose to be made early this year..
I wonder what has happend.. maybe he couldnt get his backing..
I mean its got B grade, straight to video all over it..
sure it might get cinema release in korea.. becuase he is korean etc..
but it wont find a cinema in the states.. its straight to video..
that star in it is the guy from american pie,and he is not famous..
without the big name to support this project. its doomed!! for video..

of course nothing wrong with straight to video movies..
many once big stars are making video movies now..

jeancluade, steven segal, christian slater, etc...

Sorry for the hijack but I didn't think it warranted a thread of its own.

Oh. So a Korean's supposed to direct it, is he? Well all bets off, then. Even if he makes the exact same film a whitey would have, still -- all bets off.

You might want to re-think that. Since this is a Korean movie there is a decent chance that the ESL community will be portrayed in a negative light.

You know, this is the sort of theme the "Let's Make a Movie!" thread people should consider. I keep dropping in on that thread to see if they've decided on a movie. They should avoid anything with goofy props & special effects of any sort, and just shoot a damned honest send-up of something they know inside and out. "The Hagwon from Hell!!!!" or ... yeah, get a few low-rent gangster punkers in there. THAT would be funny, THAT would have a market (here). And THAT they could make without spending so much on props.

The director posted this on the IMDB message board...

Quote:
Hello,

First of all, I want to thank you all for your interest in the project. This is truly inspiring and encouraging. It makes me work harder.

I'm sure everyone's wondering what's happening with the project. It's very much alive and we're aiming for a fall start. We're out to cast for the role of Jeremy (the lead) as well as other main roles.

I hope we have some news this month. Of course, you'll all be the first I'll share them with.

Thanks again.
