Kimchi 'Can Ward Off Food Poisoning'
... kimchi effective in killing salmonella, staphylococcus, vibrio germs and E.coli bacteria. "Our study shows that kimchi can effectively ward off food poisoning by varying the ingredients or fermentation temperature," Lee said. "When eating foods susceptible to harmful bacteria, such as meat and fish, one can prevent food poisoning by accompanying them with kimchi."

This claim is not as far removed from science as some of the other ones.
Fermented foods do help to stabilise stomach problems. |

Well, cyanide and rubbing alcohol can kill bacteria, too. Doesn't mean I'm going to serve them as side dishes. |

Yeah, well apparently Kimchi doesn't help for parasite eggs and roundworms. So much for the 'miracle' food......
(psssst, don't tell the KOreans this, but wasabi is much better at fighting off that bacterial stuff, I ate raw chicken in Nagoya last week, dipped in wasabi. Delicious and safe!) |

If it can ward off food poisoning, why doesn't it? There are epidemics of food poisoning with sea food every year. |

And I got an email in my inbox that says it can add at least two inches. |

There are epidemics of food poisoning with regular food as well. I beleive a school girl died from it last year eating in her school's cafeteria. A bunch of kids got sick.

I love wasabi! And I'm the person that always eats non-spicy food. My coworkers can't understand why I love wasabi, but can't even swallow kimchi. How can you tell them that wasabi is better because it doesn't burn your mouth for hours like kimchi, and it doesn't taste like feet? |

Sheesh... if it were Fark.com, it would have a tag like this:
The reason that most tropical climates (and some non-tropical ones) have so much spicy food is that it kills bacteria. Certainly kimchi kills bacteria; just like tabasco sauce would. Were people actually paid to 'discover' this feel-good drivel?

I also heard that the garlic content in Kimchi is good at warding off vampires and werewolves too. |
