It's the featured article tomorrow, and might be worth reading for most of us here on the CE forum. Click on the nice man and you're in.

No doubt, I have Canada's Army: Waging War and Keeping the Peace, that is absolutely thorough...and I loved it. I have been looking at Who Killed the Canadian Army....it is on sale this week might pick it up tomorrow... Smile

I am also presently reading Carol Off's book The Ghosts of Medak Pocket: the Story of Canada's Secret War which examines Canada's role as peace keepers and supporters of the Balkans' Wars - a very interesting and easy read.

I would also suggest her other book The Lion, The Fox, and The Eagle as well...

Who killed Canadian history? According to Granatstein it was the french and non-white immigrants.

I'm not sure what the Spock $5 bill photo has to do with anything, but it was in the same directory as my Canadian soldier poster and, well, where else but Canada do people spend their time turning the people on their money into Star Trek characters.

Yeah, that's great if you like a grade 6 version of Canadian military/diplomatic history. From the better, more prolific writers in the field, only a few of their more dumb-downed books have been cited while their most important works are completely missing. At the same time, you can see a very conservative slant in the writing as a result of having a limited source pool to draw from.

Yep. Granatstein had an article in the National Post not so long ago blaming Quebecers for keeping Canada out of the Iraq War. What an old fart he is.

That wasn't always his take on things and that is definitely not what "Who Killed Canadian History" was about. He has been going through a change in opinion, on many issues, for the last 9 years or so. If you look at any of his writings before about 1995 or 1996, you will notice a very different slant on things.

To know where he is coming from, you would have to know not only his complete body of works very well but also the field of Canadian military/diplomatic history and Canadian historiography in general.
