yes sirrrr....that is my home town alright. I was actually cycling around a bit yesterday (the weather was absolutely beautiful compared to the usual steaming and stifling heat) admiring the buildings and houses and stuff. It is a pretty nice city, but one needs a car here! Houstonians love their cars.

So you're not sure which area of Daejeon you'll be living in?

What time of night do you expect to arrive?

What's the planned date? It gets pretty cold here, so make sure you have a nice coat in your carry-on.

OK so i'm questioning myself.....what could possibly be the harm of telling some anonymous person what time i will arrive in town and where i will be living at??? even if it is some psyco path maniac, could they really track me down?? Probably so. I'll tell you this Quinella, i really don't know what neighborhood I will be living in. I will be arriving in Daejeon sometime on the night of Dec 1.

Don't worry about Hasselhoff, he's just excited to get fresh meat in-country.

It sounds like no one is meeting dimitri25. (Not a good sign.) Anyone have experience finding the right bus from Incheon to Daejon?

Ah... Okay, weirdo. I was trying to help you out. See, I was told that I'd be living in Daejeon, too, but I actually got stuck out in a crappy little city that's a 40-minute bus ride or 20-minute taxi ride into actual Daejeon. I was going to try to help you out with actual specifics of where you live, since no one lives simply "in Daejeon".

I was asking about the date to help you with attire suggestions since you're coming from Texas, where the weather is much different.

I guess the Hasselhof avatar was off-putting, which is understandable, but you really do need to lay off the paranoia.

I have. It's very easy. Just look at the signs, which are in English.

It would be scary to do that alone on your first night here, first time traveling abroad.

You need to make sure that's arranged. I had the name and cell phone number of my contact. If they're waiting for you, they'll probably be able to recognize you as the white guy with a confused look on his face.

Yeah, i'll find out the details before i get on the plane. i am so hyped and ready to go....a lil' nervous though. I just hope that i have no visa problems. I filled out the application at the consulate, paid the US$45, and gave my visa confirmation number, but i left out on the application an address and phone number of a contact in Korea. I'm thinking that shouldn't be a problen b/c the recruiting agency already gave me a visa confirmation number. Anyways, i pick up the visa Monday afternoon (assuming it is not denied by some technicality) and have to be on the plane by Tuesday morning. Hope everything goes as smoothly as it has been.

By the way, yo soy latino y filipino...I'm not white.

I was met at the local aorport by my boss and 2 teachers... that was after I arrived in the country to find out I needed to transfer airports and catch another plane.... lucky there is so much English in Seoul!

Not to mention they may not take you straight to your apartment. You may go straight to the hagwon to meet all the teachers and have a look around, to a grocery store, perhaps out to dinner. Indeed it COULD be an even loooonger day. Not to mention you will most likely be starting teaching the very next day.

When I arrived in the area that I live in, it was another 4 hours before I got to my apartment, and then the teachers stayed another hour.

I flew into Gimpo (pre-Incheon) on a friday afternoon & had to figure my way to a connecting domestic flight in another terminal. I was met in Gangneung airport by a taxi driver sent by the school for the one-hour drive. He was nice. Stopped & bought me coffee. Spoke nary a word of english but wanted to practice from a page of tourist phrases he had -- my first efl lesson!

Dropped me off at my new school (ECC Sokcho) at 9pm just as they finished the week. I was greeted warmly by the director, the K-teachers, & the handful of foreigners who worked there.

Dropped off my suitcase in a temporary bedroom nearby (I was given my own place the next day) & a bunch of us proceeded to a neighborhood pub for several pitchers of beer.

I felt instantly at home.
