I was on the subway into Seoul the other day and there was something odd on the train. It took an age to place it but I finally got it as we pulled in Guro. There were NO perms in sight. The train had about 8 ajjumas there and they were all sporting rather snazzy bob style cuts. 2 of them had semi perms, but they were definately migrating hair style.
So anyone else notice the slow phase out of the perm? I for one welcome it, perms rank up there with the mullet in rubbish hairness. |

Agreed. It's making a rapid exit. Even poor people avoid it now.
Do I welcome that, though? ... No, I don't welcome the demise of the ajuma pah-mah, as it symbolises yet another piece of _my Korea_ (that will forever be infinitely better and more important than the Korea the rest of you all know) disappearing into the pages of the history books and my "point-and-howl" photo albums. No, I don't welcome it at all. *hick!* |

Blunder, don't forget the two girls who instantly said yes when we asked if they'd get perms after marrying.
The dream may still be alive for some young agassis. |

i've noticed a lot more of the 'classy' ajummas are going for a beehive-esque type of bob...like a very full, teased style.
it's an improvement from the perm, but still would never qualify one of those ladies into MILF status.
much like you, jongno, i too would miss the peh-ma if it went away...
i shall remember it fondly. |

Out in the sticks where I live (Jeomchon) there are plenty of perms still around. I did notice a new ajuma who appeared in my yoga class with a cute pixie cut, however.

I cringe every time one of my kindergarten boys or one of FreeWorld's junior kindergarten boys walks into the school with a fresh perm. It's bad enough on little girls...but the little boys? |

There are still lots of perms on the ladies in Daegu. Just the other day I was noticing how the hair styles matched the age and marital status of the ladies rather closely. The older the lady, the tighter, wirier and drier the perm. The boys/men have less variety, although the odd young one has a bit of colour or spikiness going on.
Not that I care one way or the other. I mean what does it really matter how the strands of protein extruded by the scalp are arranged. Fashion: a most oppressive past-time. |

None of our boys have perms yet. It hasn't hit the sticks. I'll be on the lookout.

Don't fret, blunder. All I saw yesterday were ladies with bad perms.
I can't imagine what's worse on a little boy, a perm or that one lock of hair next to his head died blue. At least we haven't seen the permullet. That hideous design of Satan was witnessed by me on the playground in 1988. I still shiver when I think of the straight on top permy on the bottom disfigurement of that poor little boy. |

| Die, perm, die! I look at some of the ajumma on the subway with their have-not-washed-in-a-week perms and about gag. As they take off their shoes and pick at their feet in open public, I almost understand why their husbands buy prostitutes at cheongyamni. |
