Andong University has a history of problems with the Language Program. The director (unless he's been replaced) is a maniac. There's a professor in Geological Studies by the name of DJ Lee. He's a good guy and may be able to offer support if you're having difficulties.
All the best. |

Those hours are can't be for real. Slavery finished some years back? You can probably get some answers from http://efl-law.com/contracts.html
but why not just say 'no.' and see what they do. Offer to work 7-3 - But I imagine if you are surrounded by fellow tecahers, and if some don't back you, you are 'on your own all the way' |

Postscript
You could tell the maniac-in-charge that the hours are unreasonable, and that you'll quit if he doesn't address the issue. It's either that or hang in there and suffer through your contract. If you can do that you've got more tolerance for abuse than I have. |

Freewill,
What can you do? Work too much? Resign? Confront your boss?
It seems your boss has put you into a terrible situation.
You are being treated like a hired hand.
The foreign professor -- colleague or hired hand?
Foreign professors do most of the heavy lifting in terms of course loads, devoting themselves almost exclusively to teaching.
Foreign professors tend to be treated as hired hands, without academic standing, and lacking the possibility of career advancement or tenure. They must submit to yearly contracts (compensated at a rate only 60 percent of their Korean peers) while walled off from the permanent Korean faculty who benefit from travel, research funding, sabbaticals, etc. Moreover, when hundreds of Korean scholars enjoy such perks at American and other foreign universities, something is obviously amiss.
