I understand the Korean language doesn't use articles and it's very confusing for kids when to use a/an/the. Now what I find curious is, while my students almost universally avoid using an article when an article is needed, almost all of them use articles when you don't need them.
For example:
"I have hand phone."
"I am from the Korea."
They never bloody use articles except when talking about countries and cities. Suddenly they slap on "the". I can only attribute this to the American influence. "The United States". The exception they hear so much they assume it's the rule. |

Maybe that's why! Interesting idea.
I'll have to bring that up ("the ____ of _____" grammar form) when a student makes that mistake next time, just to be sure. |

I had a massive success with a grammar auction, the kids buy incorrect sentences and have to correct them to get points. I did a lot on an and when it came to the answers we went over all of rules about a,an,the.
Worked really well, last week we did a jeopardy quiz and all the kids were clamouring to fill the blank with the right preposition. |

That's hilarious. I get that a lot, too. "Teacher, look at the Jason!" I kinda like it. It adds a little bit of oomph to someone's importance.
Blunder can you PM me about the auction, please. You've told me about it before, but I don't really understand. I wanna try it.
