Samsung Chairman's Daughter Commits Suicide
Lee, 26, was found dead hanging in her apartment near New York University where she was studying. It was not immediately known whether she left a suicide note. The New York Times reported Saturday that her body was found by her boyfriend Shin Soo-bin and his friend about 3 a.m. last Saturday, hanging by an electrical cord attached to the door of her Manhattan apartment.... she suffered from a severe depression during her stay in the U.S. after her marriage plan with a Korean boyfriend was opposed by her parents, Yonhap reported quoting the source.

I even heard the lee guen hee was so shocked up, he hasnt been into work he hasnt left his house.. that was his last daughter..

I heard also they gave a tradtional buddist burial so he and his mother didnt appear at the funeral as the custom for buddists is this way..

she killed herself!!???? DAMN!!!!
poor girl.. she was pretty, and had her whole life ahead of her..
rich beautiful but unfortunately she was married into the YANGBAN of new korea! SAMSUNG have a dirty dynasty!!!
like hyundai 3 members killed themselves from there..
these rich dynastys need to calm down! and get with the times!
she killed herself for love!! isnt that the most important thing in life!
BEING HAPPY???!!!
I bet her mother is regretting being so stupid now saying NO NO NEVER!
he is not good enough!! again a mother kills her own child!
wasnt there an actress whose mother pretty much was the reason of her suicide! different reason but hey!!

JESUS!! they acting like the boyfriend was a waygook or something Laughing
I feel sorry for the father, but It took this action for them to see life is short and precious to the one who has it! the mother and father will now see how wrong they were to appose her freedom and happinessa ruthless lesson, but I can understand her.. may she rest in peace.. she was brave to go out like this..

I just hope it wasnt first degree murder!!!

A friend of mine from Vancouver used to teach privates to a student from that family at a home somewhere up on the big North hill in the Itaewon area. They paid her 100,000 won an hour, and my friend said they had 3 servants caring for the house and yard. I wonder if my friend has met that girl before. I will have to send her an e-mail.

And why don't they post the girl's full name in the article? Anyone have a pic of her?

I saw a picture of her some place online. She was rather good looking. Why does a gay man want a picture of her, Derrek?

...sigh...I wasn't sure if I should post here, but I'm quite down about this. I knew her fairly well, for about a year, just previous to her moving to New York.

I can tell you that she was one of the brightest, most open-minded people I've ever met. Of course, she was very well taken care of, but apart from that, you would never guess that she was from such a rich and powerful family - very down to earth.

The last time I saw her was in July - she was so happy and optimistic about going to New York, and experiencing some freedom. In Korea she had two bodyguards on her everywhere she went. The house was run like a hotel, there were so many staff. She had intended to live a semi-"normal" existence in New York, and told me she didn't plan to bring any staff - although I'm sure her father must have at least make her bring a driver/bodyguard.

This is deeply shocking to me - honestly, there is nothing in her character that I would have ever predicted would lead to this. Although I knew that she was having a tough time with the boyfriend situation, her older sister had married a relative "nobody", and so the marriage being the sole reason for her suicide doesn't seem probable to me.

I also know her two sisters, though not the brother, and the three girls seemed very close, even though they were all incredibly busy. I honestly don't know how the bright, happy girl I knew in July could have found herself in such a dark place by November....

I hope that the postings on this thread remain respectful. She was really an amazing person, and the family members that I've met (mom and two sisters) are also class acts. Of course, I know that Samsung has done many illegal and unethical things. I don't think driving Yoon Hyung to suicide was one of them. She often felt trapped by who she was, as I think the whole family must have felt at some point or another.

I will never understand this - such an action seems so far away from the person I knew. Please send out some good thoughts for her soul when you have a moment....

I can't tell you how much I disagree with this statement. I'm not going to rip on her, because no doubt she had some serious issues to deal with, but there is no bravery in suicide.

thats right how can you ever really know someone!

sure when they meet friends people put on a brave face..
koreans are very good at doing this..
but one of the richest woman in korea , pretty with her whole life ahead of her doesnt just kill herself for no reason!!
depression is the result of suicide!!
why would samsungs daughter be depressed? why would a woman in her 20's living very wealthy in NEW YORK can buy what ever she wants! be depressed?
I do not know this girl, but I do know about samsungs yangban policy.

you say you knew this girl.. then you would have read her blog and seen the life she was living and how unhappy she was.

the samsung way of life is HARD. im sorry but I feel her family WERE the direct result to her suicide.. A woman like that does kill herself if she has loving parents her let her live her own life..
if she was clinically depressed and was in theorpy well doesnt matter how rich you are .. depression is REAL and needs to be treated..
but suicide is NOT A JOKE! and is always linked to depression..

if you dont mind sharing how you managed to became friends with her?
She has moved onto a better place now..RIP

of course there is bravery in it..
doesnt mean you are brave to want to end yourlife!
but once you have gone past the point of no return in your mind..
you need REAL BIG BALLS to take the last step.. and that is bravery to walk that last step alone!

the last couple of minutes she is preparing the cord standing on the chair
etc.. then taking that last step.. many people would not go through with it
scared, most people are scared to even think about it..
but when someone kills themselves they are braver than you and me. you might think they are weaker than us for ending their life..
yes thats is true. they are.. right up to the last step!!!then they are brave, strong! you think taking that last step is easy?? these people are not stupid!! they know what they are doing.. but they are BRAVE! and walk the last step like a brave soul. its the final step I am talking about it..
right up to that step they are weak and need help..

That's a pretty shallow view of life.

For most emotionally balanced people, happiness does not depend on money, material possessions, age, and where you live.

Bravery is walking away from your familly and it's money to be the with person you love. Bravery is standing up for yourself and your beliefs.

Suicide is not bravery, it's just the easiest way to escape your problems.

I'm not entirely disagreeing, but suicide does have different connotations in different cultural situations. A Buddhist who devoutly believes in reincarnation does not have the same attitude toward suicide as a Christian who devoutly believes we get only one trip through life.

I'm sure that if the coroner says suicide, then I'm sure that it's correct. I'm just wondering if murder might be another possibility? The reason I ask is that usually for women there are warning signs or previous attempts made. Just wondering. Must have had much trouble in mind. RIP.
