| It's ok. Good cover letter there, YBS. I agree a lot hinges on the photo. You want to look clean-cut, definitely caucasian, but not too "powerful" - I would recommend nice clothes but not a suit. The school that hires you will be showing your photo to the students' mothers to gauge their reaction. |

That brings up another thing I hadn't thought of. When I do get a job (I'm being optimistic) is it expected that I wear a suit everyday? Or will simply nice clothes do? I've rarely worn a suit, they're extremely uncomfortable to me (not enough breathing room), but I have nice clothes that I like to wear.

I expected business casual would be the norm (that is button up shirts or turtlenecks or sweaters on men, with trousers slightly nicer than jeans, everything well-ironed etc and shoes not sneakers). But my school has never once commented on my apparel, even when I tested the waters with t-shirts on particularly hot summer Fridays. So basically there was no dress code, and I started shopping for more casual clothes and dressing more comfortably. I've gotten a little dressier lately but it's because of the cold weather, not work. And... I'm trying out a beard for the first time since I was a teenager... I'll keep you all updated as that progresses! |

There are a lot of threads on this topic. It all depends on where you work. At a hogwan, casual or smart casual is fine. At a high school or uni, smart casual or formal. At an adult academy / business school, suit and tie might be the expectation. |
