Just curious. Almost every foreigner I meet doesn't do anything much besides getting trashed. What do you guys think alcohol does for a person? Many may say it gives them release from reality. Other's may say there is a social stigma attached to it. I am all about having a sip here and there for socializational (yes...i am trying to be a shakespeare..lol) sake...but man...to get absolutely trashed and have to suffer the consequences of the alcohol aftermath....phew...not for me! All input is welcome.
The esape from "your problems" issue. I just can't see it as a viable solution. I mean, you get trashed...you MAYYYYYY forget for a few moments, but when the hangover is done...you are right back to square one. |

Cubanlord, I fear you're about to get hung out to dry.
I'm definitely not the most highly ranked member in the cult of Bacchus, but your poll doesn't include any of the reasons I consume alcohol. Your poll options look very much as if you've never imbibed or even hung around people who imbibed.
Some more popular choices:
-It tastes good
-It makes members of the opposite sex more attractive
-It makes members of the opposite sex more attracted to me
-It's a culturally embedded bonding ritual
-It relaxes me
-When I drink, I meet interesting people
Anyway, brace yourself fella, because you're about to get school by the more loyal students of Dr. Jack Daniels... |

It's all good. I am not making fun of anyone; just curious as to why people drink as much as they do. Hopefully no one takes it the wrong way. If so...oh well. It's just a question. It isn't like I am making fun of anyone. To each his own. |

| I thought most people drank to feel relaxed. Not one of your choices. |

I drink because I like the flavor, the texture, and the buzz. I usually don't get trashed.
Your poll options are scant.

I pick these two from Kermo's poll. |

I can't answer any of those: I drink beer 'cos I enjoy it.
Sometimes in the past I would drink too much, just like many here may do now. For me, now, it just hurts too much the next day.
I don't - or very rarely - drink at home and here in Korea seldom drink anything but beer. In Europe though I drink wine as well (not usually at the same time!). I would drink wine here too but the price of anything drinkable is simply crazy. |

| I drink because my prefered method of achieving an altered state of consciousness is not readily available or legal. |

Friend ...
A note here for future consideration: in assuming that everyone drinks you're "Begging" the question.
Personally, over the years, i've grown to hardly drink at all. Victory hootch is a poor man's substitute for God's good green herb. Having said this, i much prefer to SMOKE; and not the "legal" ( i.e. state sanctioned ) albeit cancer loaded cigarettes either.
As is the case, i've of course gotta wait until returing to the mother country to indulge. Until then let's let meditation be our medication and otherwise "drug" of choice |

| The thread question was promising, but the poll question (and answers) stink. |
