So apparently my Korean partner teacher claims that this Thursday is HAT DAY, which she thinks is a national day of celebration in the States, or in Scotland or somewhere english-speaking. Anyone else heard of this?? And does anyone have any bright ideas on how to fill my classtime with this hat theme? Of course, everyone is expected to wear a hat. We could make hats, maybe... They are elementary students, maybe grade 3 or 4? Thanks.

We used to have Hat Day as one of the dress up days during Homecoming Week in high school. Maybe she saw something like that and generalized it into such a weird idea.

Anyway, no ideas for making this a useful lesson.

Aaah, Hat Day!
Boy, how that brings back memories.
I remember the frantic worry the week before hat day trying to find the right hat to buy for my Dad (he was a difficult person to buy for). The worst part was fighting with the crowds of people at the haberdashery. I think one time it was so bad, I almost lost a tooth to someone's elbow.
On Hat Day, we would crowd into the station wagon and drive over to grandmother's house. We'd meet the rest of the family. My cousins and I would see what presents the Hat Pin Fairy brought us. Then we would exchange gifts and I would have to pretend to be happy over the beanie that grandma handmade for me. (Why she couldn't spend the money and buy a real hat, I don't know) Afterwards, we would gather around the table and have our annual Hat Day meatloaf (we were traditional that way) and show our hats to everyone.

Thanks for helping me to remember that.

It sucked. haha. We made hats, and gave the kids handfuls on candies. Pointless! Oh well.
