I work at a high school and in January some company comes and runs a winter camp there. The school asked if I could stay for the winter camp. I said yes. But what is it? I see some people talking about it in different threads and, sometimes, when I read those posts about winter camp, I get sweaty palms and heartburn.

Can somebody explain what winter camp is and what happens there?

Thanks.

Winter camp is where you are supposed to keep the little ones in an enclosed area while you speak English at them as opposed to summer camp where you let them run around outside while you speak English at them. Don't forget your name tag.

You've GOT to find out if you'll be "teaching" (means you get to go home every night) or if you're going to have to live with the kids!! TEACHING is one thing...LIVING with the little darlings is a whole 'nother ballgame!!

I already live at the school so I imagine I'll be living with the kids when they come. What do you do with the kids? Throw balls at them and show them cartoons?

Every camp is different, so it's hard to say. Well, on the bright side (if you like cafeteria food, that is), I imagine you'll be getting free breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It's winter camp, so Christmas related activites, ie Christmas songs, making Christmas foods, etc, would go over really well.

I would check with immigration that everthing is kosher with that first though. Might need to do some paperwork, and get an extra stamp on your E2 to make that legal.

Huh? If it's at the same LOCATION, it shouldn't matter WHO comes. Only if he goes elsewhere. The way I read it the winter camp operates at the high school which is his registered location.

If you teach a few hours a day and then go home....ask for your hourly overtime for the class (and maybe a bonus for not being able to bask in the sun in some nice tropical country).

If you have to live with the little hellions.....ask for a big wad of cash.
All Wintercamp is a bunch of Elementary school kids living and supposedly breathing English 24/7 for a month. The ones at our University pretty much give us free run of the place and we can do pretty much what we want. Fun in English is more important that getting them to regurgitate grammer rules at you.
