How do you find out if you are black listed by Immigration. A year ago, I had a big fight with my boss and he fired me, then he said that he didn't want to fire me but I allready booked my ticket home and left the next day. I want to come back and teach but I received an email from some recruiter saying that I am not allowed to come back.
Are there any web-sites or other places to find out if I am forbidden. |

you can not work legally for a year until your original visa expires!
BUT.. you can have your ex boss sign a release letter and then you will be allowed to resign with another school..
you can fly back in tomorrow on a tourist visa not problem.. |

Contact immigration they are the only ones who have any say about your status on returning to Korea.
Was it the same recruiter you used last time? |

My contract expired February of 2005. I finished 10 months of the contract but we had a huge fight, it was nasty, and I left. Since the contract has been expired for almost a year, Why would I need a release letter. Besides, I am certain that would not happen. He is not a reasonable man.
Grotto, I have never used a recruiter before. I was just looking for new jobs and got this email saying that I am not welcome to come back. I am not in Korea, so how do I contact immigration. Do they have a website of blacklisted teachers?
Thanks for any help. I really like Korea and teaching there and would love to come back. I don't want one bad experience to end my chances. |

do you have financial obligations with your former employer? did you have bills that needed to be paid? did you have to pay a recruiter fee but didn't? if you answered yes to any of the above questions, he may have blacklisted you at immigration. if that is the case, it will be on your file, and i don't know how long that will stay. you said that you made your previous employer quite upset....well he may have gone out of his way so that you have a red line across your name at immigration for good.
the only person that can clear that up is your previous employer or yourself if you file a complaint with the labor board for your employer's actions. |

The employeers have rights too.
If you screwed him over then you deserve to be blacklisted. If i was you I would do what they said and call immigration. |

Now, now. If the recruiter said he can't come back, then that's that for him and Korea. Don't you guys know recruiters never lie? |

The OP said he never had a recruiter. Anyway, Frankly Speaking, who sent you the e-mail saying that you can't come back? Was it your old boss or an actual recruiter that you contacted? More details please. |

I thought I was clear, but I will repeat again. I was recently applying for jobs and some recruiter, who I have never known before, sent me an email and said that I was not welcome to come back because I left my last job.(I have never used a recruiter before, so recruiter fees.)
I had many different conflicts with my boss over the year but always remained calm and tried to be reasonable with him. He changed my hours and in the 10th month of the contract I only worked 5 hours a day instead of 6(for 2 weeks) So he tried to deduct money from my salary. Since, I said that the scheduling was not my doing I should not be responsible. I would have taught my normal hours but he didn't have any classes for me. He was unreasonable, accused me of being a bad teacher and said students didn't like me...blah blah blah... (if that was the case, then why didn't he say something prior to the 10th month). None the less, I said, "if you don't like me then fire me. " He said,"your fired." I Said, "good" and then left. He called the next day and said that I wasn't fired but I allready booked my ticket home. I cleaned my apartment, left an extra 100,000 won to cover any expenses. Wrote him a letter explaining that I wished him no ill will but I could not work in a hostile environment. I put the keys in the mail box and went home.
Now a year later, I would like to come back and teach.
How do I contact Immigration to find out if he did black list me? Is there a web site. Now not to sound ungrateful, but if you don't have advice don't write. I am asking for advice not a debate. So keep opinions to yourself, they are not useful. |

So how did your agent find out? Did you sign a contract, forward the paperwork, and it was rejected? If not, how would the agent know? I'd keep trying with someone else. |

You could try asking the Korean consulate/embassy in your home
country about your status with Korean immigration. |

Why don't you just call immigration in Korea. They have English speakers and he may give you actual information.
---about the email: The head hunting companies are under pressure now to clean up their acts. They may have checked with immigration about your status and that is why he sent you the email. Why is it so hard to believe that they might actually do their jobs and check teachers BEFORE the teachers come over here for a job? It is entirely possible that you were blacklisted. Why don't you check but prepare for the worst. If you are blacklisted then just go somewhere else. It isn't the end of the world. |

You can contact them but they won't really tell you yes or no.
They will say APPLY for a visa and then you will find out. I know--I even went to Omokyo Immi in person.
Trust me you won't get a solid answer. (even from home I suspect.)
From your story though I would guess you are fine---unless the really do have a "bad waygook" list and put everyone who comes to their attention on it |
