I am living in Hae Bang Chon.
Recently I have noticed my download speeds have dropped to like 30% of their previous speed. I am on Cable BTW which i know can be a factor.
Called the tech guy over and he did tests and whatnot and said everything was fine.
Anyone else having troubles in my area, or if not recommend another cable company?
Thanks |

I live there too, and my speed is about the same as it's always been.
I use Hanafos btw.
Note: I live in the Kyong E Dan area; near Namsun tunnel 3 and the small Korean Army base. |

Have you been downloading from the same sites? They may have piggbacked someone else on your line, its happened before!!
What speeds do you get if you donwload from say a MS site? I always use them as a benchmark. I get like 1MB per second sometimes. But I am on a VDSL connection. 10/4Mbit connection. |

I will give that a try when I get home. But yeah im not happy about this.
Like I was downloading a movie overnight and it had heaps of seeds and leachers and it was 700mb and it didnt download in 7 hours.
Thats not right in my opinion. |

Im on a Lan with my room-mate. We both used to get blinding speeds even tho we were both using Bit Torrent. Now recently we are lucky to get over 100k each.
I have ripped my system apart looking forward. Bought a new router and configured it. Got a system tech out here to check the line and thrunet says there is nothing wrong with the line.
So i was talking to a friend that lived in the same area who also goes thru thrunet and he was saying he has had a speed slowdown as well. Soooo I am coming to the conclusion that Thrunet is putting some sort of throttle on BT traffic. As in throttling non known ports.
If that is the case then, my patronage is going elsewhere. |

nah ... cable connections are by definition shared connections. Whereas DSL are seperate. Your download speeds will be effected directly by the number of people in your area using the connection, as well as what they are using the connection for.
It's very likely that the company your with just got themselves a load of new customers in your area. And now you all share the same line.
The only thing you can do is to try to run your torrents during off-peak hours. Your bandwidth is going to be more limited during peak hours when everyone else is on the net. |

... hi giant, I was looking into getting a VDSL line in my apartment as well. But the company I was dealing with couldn't make any guarantees whatsoever with regards to the upload speed. One of the helpline employeess seemed to think that I wouldn't get much more upload bandwidth than I do on an ADSL.
What kind of upload speeds are you getting with that, just out of curiosity ... ?? |

Well, you need to look at it like this, 8bits = 1byte. So 10Mbit's is equal to roughly just over 1MB per second transfers, of course thats downloading, and I get that sometimes depending on the server, so if you look at 4Mbits upload, you can do the math. It should be just under half that.
But when I tranfser to another computer I can get around 400kb/s. Thats kilobytes per second, not kilobits.
Oh, and if you want to test it, you can PM me for an account on my FTP server to test the speeds.
Cheers |
