I, for one, just bought a PC from a girl here on Dave's. I got a hell of a bargain. The harddrive, thought to be 40gigs, is really 120gigs. I am currently cleansweeping the harddrive; found out the dude that owned it before partitioned it incorrectly, thus only one 40 gig part was showing. Anyhow, I would rather my money go to help another foreigner; at least in this country.
Mind you that most of the foreigners I have met are pretty decent. There are some, however, I would rank as high as one of the kids I drop off at the pool (if you catch my drift). Regardless, when push comes to shove in this country, I would rather help a fellow foreigner out. |

Well also, you can get a better deal because foreigners often leave the country and have to sell stuff in a hurry. |

Do you really think this is why you can find so many things for cheap? Stupid question: What does a runner do for someone? I never understood the whole concept. I know it's when someone doesn't like a job...so they go to Japan or something, but for what? |

No, a runner is when people get so desperate that they buy a ticket back home and flee. they oftern sell alot of stuff right before they go, and as they are trying to just recover some cash before a certain immediate date, they are usually willing to bargain, bargain, bargain. Yes, it is a bit cruel to use people's deperation to an advantage, but really- is it better that they how it on the curb, or get some cash? |

(They "how" it? An innocent typo, but what? "Show"? "Haul"? "Tow"? THROW!! That's what you meant, right?)
Yes, people will sometimes take advantage of a seller's urgency. What you also get are people (on Buy/Sell/Trade Forum) who will take advantage of many foreigners' ignorance of what a fair price would be, unfamiliarity with local prices and product availability, geographic isolation, and inability to speak or read Korean.
And then you've got people who will take advantage of every "PC for sale" opportunity on Buy/Sell/Trade to show us what a geek they are by nitpicking the sell offer to pieces, and then branding the seller a crook.
I know someone who always has a few things to sell. Motorcycles, amps, tables, printers, computer gear. He decided it just wasn't worth the inevitable headaches and bickering to sell them on Buy/Sell/Trade (even though it's free) so he started placing paid-for ads in print media. "Here it is, here's the price, here's my email addy. You want it? Contact me." He's found buyers for every item he's ever tried to sell. No fuss, no fights. And he always gets his asking price. Neat.
And no, that someone isn't me. But I do the same when I have something to sell. Or rent. If I were ever to list something on Buy/Sell/Trade, it will probably take the form of a giveaway, like the "Lost doggy -- he's free" sort of posts. ("30 Lovable Movies on DVD Looking for Caring Home") |

If I had a million dollars, I'd buy a monkey...because I've always wanted a monkey.

I'll take an aquarium if you're looking to get rid of one in north-east Seoul.
By the way, can cats really grab fish out of them. Do you need to make sure they have a good lid? |

I don't know. I've found a lot of foreigners here to be pretty decent but cheap and greedy when it came to buying and selling things. Example being when people are leaving and want to sell their stuff. wtf??? "Washing Machine. Paid 400,000 brand new (2 yrs ago) will take 350 ono" etc etc, right down to selling books and cutlery etc. Sad tossers. Give it to your friends, you cheap fucks. |

Right. 36 hours before departure and they're haggling over the price of an electric skillet, two spatulas and a wobbly bookcase. I know the type.
Unless you've made the decision (and done the footwork) to stay here long term, just don't buy things that you can't carry home, can't bear to give away, or can't bear to sell for a giveaway price. |
