So I was wondering...

....who has done this, was it possible to do through mail, etc..etc...any info would be great.
I have all of the forms I believe now ...but I don't want to travel there to be told something is missing...can someone give me the lowdown?
Thanx... |

It is not too much trouble to go there ...A$$WIPE (go have another brew and kiss some of your Gohnaherpasiphilaid ridden bar gals Joe ) ....
...but the wife is in no shape to go with me at this point, and I don't enjoy leaving her alone to fend for herself and the baby...I was just asking if someone had done this...as a normal person would understand it is a busy time no matter how prepared one is...jeez...
Anyway, thanx, I will just ring them up and such... |

We went in person (husband, baby and myself) at 2 weeks postpartum. Don't know where you live, but I found the Busan people to be absolutely wonderful. They gave directions to our taxi driver and stayed open a little later for us because we weren't quite going to make it in time and were coming from another city. (Turns out the travel time is longer when you have to stop and breastfeed several times!) Make sure you check the hours: I think they're closed a couple hours for lunch and are only open half a day on Fridays. They also let us into a room to feed and change the baby.
The three of us went because I had assumed they would need to see the baby to verify that the photo and the baby matched. (Of course he does not have a guarantor.)
It was only afterwards that I wondered if that was really necessary.
Even if you are going to the embassy in Seoul I would recommend calling the consulate in Busan to get answers to your questions. When I tried Seoul I got a maze of recordings but in Busan you speak to a person!
Phone: 051-204-5581
Good luck! |

Also, they should give you a receipt for your passport application. In case you do not get the passport by the time you have to register your child with Korean immigration (within 30 days of birth) you can show them the receipt so they know you're on it, do everything else and come back with the passport when it arrives. |

I have heard that in certain cases, you may need to show sonograms to prove that the child is yours. This may only apply to the American embassy and/or mixed children, though. |
