This is my first post!
High five to the techno-virgin.
My fiancee and I are interviewing with JEL Intitute in Sanbon/Seoul. Does anyone have thoughts or experience regarding this school? Thought I'd ask before I blindly and blithely step on a plane.
Thanks. |

Just from 2nd hand knowledge, it's a good place to work for a hagwon. I live in Sanbon and have only heard mediocre things about it, so that's pretty good for a hagwon. I think you could do much worse your first time. By the way, Sanbon is a great place to live. |

Why is Sanbon a great place to live? I lived there about a year and I didn't think it was that good. I mean it is okay I suppose...but great is not the word I would use. When I was there the only place to shop was E-Mart. You had to leave Sanbon to shop anywhere else. There wasn't a movie theater or much of anything. |

There are 2 movie theaters and a new New Core department store with a Kim's Club. They have also just recently redone all the walkways, it looks nice. There are many parks and it's close to the mountains. All we need is a great coffee place. There are about 5-6 so so ones like Rosebud and Ediya, but nothing great. So, that's why I like it. |

Actually, Sanbon sounds perfect. I'm a little bit scared of obscenly huge cities, although I will only admit it under a psuedonym.
baby steps..
its close enough to Seoul to go once a week or so right?
I enjoy owning the latest style in bath towels |

The Sanbon area is nice. I just moved out there at the end of October. The area around E-mart is actually quite good. There are a couple of movie theaters there (one seems to only show Korean movies though).
The air in Gunpo city is much nicer than Seoul. It's nice not having to spend 10 minutes every morning hacking up the stuff that gets into your lungs in Seoul.
I live in the Twi-gye apartments. It's close to the subway station and close to an out door track and field area where construction is underway to put in tennis courts and an in-line skate track.
It takes about 30 minutes by subway to get into Seoul (Sadang where you can transfer to the green line if you want). You can continue on Seoul station or Samgakji (you can transfer and go to Itaewon from there) adding about another 15 minutes to your trip. You could be in Itaewon in about 45 minutes or in Kangnam, etc.
I know nothing about the school you're asking about...sorry.
Cheers |

The school just fired 4 teachers without any apparent reason. There will are also 3 Korean staff quitting at the end of the month. This is not a good time to come. |

I lived there the year before last and found the place cute and cozy.
It's right by the subway, amenities are within walking range, there were 2
cinemas ( but now there's only one), there's a nice park in a ravine where
one can jog, cycle, or rollerblade, a close community of foreign teachers
and places where they hang out, friendly Koreans who actually step aside
instead of ramming one as he passes by, and relatively clean air unlike in
most Gyonngi-do towns. The only thing to be wary about is the housing.
The affordable single dwellings are terrible. |

I've just moved to Sanbon as well, having previously lived in Suwon. I live in Hyundai co-ah-tel which is just around the corner from E-mart. I guess the housing for teachers here isn't quite as good as some other places considering that I've been told that I have one of the best places for foreign teachers here. My apartment's decent, but not amazing.
So far I really like Sanbon. Not too big but with all the ammenities that I need. it's clean, friendly, and modern. It took me 25 minutes to get to Yongsan and 15 to Suwon. Anyang is even closer. Pretty rad location if you ask me.
I haven't seen any other foreign teachers here yet tho. I've been to the E-mart twice and I think I'm gonna avoid it because it seems to be freakishly busy. It's only been a week but, so far, I'm happy here. |

If you're looking for other foreign teachers, go to the "King of Pirates" bar which is close to the KFC. KB Star in the town center has an international machine. |

hi
i have been in sanbon for almost 6 months. it's a decent city, in my opinion.
you can go to a NICE cash machine in sanbon station for international withdrawals. also, there is a carrefour, it's about a 10 minute walk from geumjong station.
i was in busan last year, i think the air is better as well.... |
