Tell me you haven't thought the same thing.

On the Animal Planet channel alone there are four crocodile guys and about three snake guys all hamming it up for the camera.

Those guys know what they're doing, so the likelihood of them being injured by wild animal attack is fairly low.

Besides they've all been bitten or had close shaves previously, off camera.

I'm an Aussie and many years ago when I actually lived there, they aired a show with his out takes. Pretty funny stuff with some some mistakes that nearly cost him dearly and some small ones that were hilarious.

Example: He's holding this small bright green snake near his face and as he's saying "these little snakes can be really quick", it latches onto his face and wouldn't let go. Luckily for him it wasn't poisionous. But the timing was perfect with what he was saying.

OK, but why crocs?

Why not koalas or kangaroos?

My Australian friend told me that Koalas can be quite vicious. Dozens of people are torn apart every year in Australia from a koala's sneak attack. They work in pairs and you never know what hit you.

Why don't they film that?

Because the Kiwis are keeping the sheep busy.

-but in answer to the original question...

-"Because Aussies are constantly trying to prove how macho they are."

You should see the drop bears. Vicious things that'll drop down from trees, latch onto the back of your head and go nuts.

If you're heading into Australia, I heartily recommend smearing your face with vegemite, as the dropbears naturally stay away from the stuff.

Minimum 24 hour application. Best to start while your plane is on approach into the airport.

Don't get me started on the hoop snakes.

jae.
