Well, i just want to say to all of you that are scared of what to expect from Korea --- Don't Be!!! I have had an overall very pleasant beginning to my arrival in Korea. Thank you very much Morning Calm Recruiting! They were excellent in ensuring that I arrived without any problems. My school is excellent and everything in the contract was indeed honored---(well, i won't say everything is perfect until I receive my first paycheck). Well so far, so good. I even got a fancy welcome dinner on my first day of teaching. Well, i'm still yet to explore Daejeon. Got this weekend to do that> have a nice day! |

welcome to the jungle. A piece of advice this weekend. If you see some strange white stuff falling from the sky this weekend don't be alarmed its called snow. I know you don't see that stuff in Houston.
Whats strange is the locals will act like they have never seen it before and will drive like lunatics in it |

Welcome to Taejon. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
If you drop in to Santa Claus (downstairs from the Lotteria in Koong-dong) say 'hi'. The owner has a VERY nice collection of albums. (Yes, albums...those old-fashioned round, flat, black things that make music.)
If you head down that same street toward the university, there is a good dak-kal-bi (chicken, cabbage, rice goo and hot sauce stuff) place on the same side of the street. Mrs. Yoo is friendly and likes foreigners. Her son lives in LA. The name is "Choon-chang dak-gal-bi" but you probably can't read that yet. It's on a corner about 300 meters down the street. |

Yes Dimitri...welcome.
Remember your words today and compare them with your feelings 3 months from now and again in 6 months time. It is interesting how peoples perception evolves |

Welcome. You seem chipper and optimistic.
Just don't go postal when you realize you've landed on another planet.
Did you bring the taco seasoning? I'm almost out. |

Awesome! I just got here myself, and let me say every day in Korea is like a new adventure. I don't think I'll EVER miss Western food -- there's just so many different Korean ones, I'll probably never get to eat the same thing twice!
And the people!! Koreans have been great, really making me feel at home.
Anyway, too cool! Dimitri, I say we both come back here to this website and swap some of those radical Korea experiences that I just KNOW are waiting for us down the road, yeah?!!

So very true!
3 Days: wow, this country is so fascinating, and the job looks OK.
3 Months: well, I don't think I'll be renewing my contract here, but life in Korea is all right.
6 Months: (exactly 6 months and one day) you can take my resignation letter and shove it up your ass, wongjongnim babosaki misogynist racist f*ckwit. But I still love this ridiculous country! |
