This is good news.
Immi has run rough-shod over foreigners' rights, especially South Asians, for decades. May this be a step in the right direction. |

I would suspect not much, I'm afraid.
But if the local chapter of the HRC contacts member chapters in other countries. Not to mention if someone was to contact a member of the subcommittee on Human Rights in the US or Canada, then something CAN and WILL be done.
Korea has a poor human rights record when it comes to the treatment of the foreign workforce in Korea and anymore damage to its image would hurt its international standing even more.
I believe the more pressure that is applied to Korea to adjust its treatment of foreigners, the more we can live here in peace. |

I was in the immigration office two weeks ago and i noticed a large poster positioned on the wall behind a large artificial tree fern and the water cooler. Basically if was a display of highly characterized (to the point of being racially insulting) cartoons of 'international' people (the cartoon africans with the big rubbery lips and was very tastfully done) accompanied by the large heart-warming English slogan "ALL..... have the right to fair and justice treatment".
A small step in the right direction but still a long way to go... |
