OK,
Here's the full monty.
My old employer and I jointly dropped the ball and forgot to cancel my old visa.
SO, I gotta get out of Korea and wait for my new visa application to go through.
China is too crazy and too slow. Japan is gonna be hella expensive.
Are there any other options? What other countries are relatively painless?
Cheers

GUAM has a consulate?
And it's speedy?
Or maybe Saipan?
O man, if thats the case, I gotta get my swim trunks out.
WOO-Hoo!!
Thanx Ya-Ta!
BUT, is it fast? It all comes down to speed right now.
I got 600 bucks total to make this visa run work.
My boss is all busy, so I have full responsibility.
I just tell him where I am, and he applies, and has it sent there.
SO, cheap, fast, and Speedy?
Help me peoples! I gotta be on a plane by Wednesday! |

The Korean embassy in Bangkok is easy - but it takes 3 days. Or, rather, it did at the time I had my E2 done there, it could have changed by now. I don't have the phone number, but you can get it on the web and they speak enough English to answer your question.
If you can get a cheap flight, the cost of being there is next to nothing. |

| Avoid Taiwan. I had a friend who went there and then discovered that visas from Taiwan are not recognised by other countries because they don't want to piss off China. |

Careful. I went to Toronto on a visa run. It used to be 2 days. Now it's 5 days. Seriously research the most current wait times. Lots has changed. You might also have to bring a copy of your original degree or sealed transcripts. The Toronto consulate wants this, even if you've already provided them to Korean immigration for your visa approval.
Thanks crappy dishonest "teachers!" We all get to pay for your avarice and lack of professionalism! |

this is a hotel in Osaka for 18 bucks a night, if you got a japanese speaking friend. Japan's not always expensive.

Yes, Guam has a consulate and is speedy. In the four or five times I've used it, I was able to pick up my visa either the same day or the next day. Guam is also 86 degrees F every day. A tad bit too humid for my taste, but that doesn't mean it isn't to yours.
The consulate is also right behind an American-style grocery store, so you can pick up stuff you have been craving here but couldn't find. There is also a variety of ethnic restaurants.
The only bad thing about Guam is the flight schedule. You arrive and leave at wretched hours of the night. |

| Japan's really cheap. There are lots of hotels under 20$ and you don't have to eat the Kobe beef. You can make great meals by eating at Lawson convenience stores and get massive bowls of noodles for $4.00 at noodle shops. Japan's your best bet. |

| Osaka is your best bet (or Fukoka if you're in the south). Japan is more expensive, but you will have your visa the next day. Plane tickets to Thailand or Guam are much higher and the waiting period is usually longer. Stay in a capsule hotel in Japan and eat at the noodle shops. It shouldn't break the bank if you only stay one night. |

Hey Guys,
I don't think I explained myself well the first time.
I'm breaking an old contract, with permission from my old boss.
However, I first must leave the country, hand over my ARC, and wait 5 business days for the application for my visa to come thru.
Then, I have to take that number, bring it to the consulate, and wait ANOTHER 3 or so days. The reason I couldn't go to Japan is cuz, well, screw Japan for any more than 5 days. Japan IS expensive.
I got a cheap flight to Bangkok, and then I get to play the waiting game there, which is actually kinda sweet. I may go to Koh Samet. On business, of course.
I just HOPE I don't need another copy of my transcript.
If so, I'm kinda toast.
Thanks for your replies!! |
