Asking for a co-worker since they don't post on here.

She has been working at the same school for a year and a half and recently found out that she wasn't on the pension plan as she had previously believed.

She just found this out after submitting that Degree verification form.

She wants to know if there is anyway that she can force the school to make up the difference for the past year and a half.

thanks.

She may want to talk to the pension office. Maybe they can help. I had found out one of the companies I worked for hadn't paid for 4 months and the pension office got the money for me.

Riley:

What is the name of the person who helped you out at the Korea National Pension Office? I'm in the same boat as the friend of the poster.

Thanks for your time.

Have her call the main pension office in Jamsil station as well. There is an English-speaking man there who is the director. Explain to him that you cannot speak to the provincial office and need to resolve this. Give him your boss's name, phone number, school, etc. He'll get on it.

the pension office has an English hotline (02-1355) If it comes down to a bargaining thing with the school, I'd consider contacting the tax office too. If the boss ripped her off on pension, chances are, he didn't pay taxes either.

I am sure that she can get at least 1/2 year back (from this year, once she leaves), but she will have to pay in her part, too. So she needs to prepare to add a chunk of change on her behalf as well, in order to get what the employer matches. She will have to back-pay, as well as the employer.

Maybe she can get more than 1/2 year, but since it's another contract she's on now, I'm not sure.

Hi,

I was told last year that I have up to 5 years to question pension. This was after finding out that my school of 1 1/2 years had only paid 2 months of penison. I will be doing that this year. This information also meant that there was no nasty confrontation at the end of the contract. I knew I could pursue it later.

Check it out with the Pension Board.

Hi Roch,
I don't know if I can help you much, but I had gone to the pension office for my area (near Jamsil) and the man there told me my first company hadn't paid for the last months. He said that they will take care of it for me. I didn't need to do anything nor had I asked for his help. What was also interesting was that my first hagwon was down in Bundang, which I assume is out of his area. Either way, they got the money for me.

Oh yeah, they have all of the information about it, but I would reccomend to bring your passport and Alien Registration Card. He seemed very helpful.
