This is already happening with food! The Chinese are, in essence, 'plagiarizing' kimchi by making it in China and selling it cheaply in Korea, undercutting the local market. There's a hue and cry over it daily in the newspapers.
I doubt attitudes to copying or plagiarizing will change soon; not in my lifetime, at least.

There was an article in the Korea Times or whatever about Korean brand names being knocked off in China. iRiver and Samsung products were the major ones. I had to chuckle a bit. |

I have no problem with my students copying my coursebook.
However, since I've used the same book for many years, a few students have copied used books from my old students, or even just take the old one. This is no good, as they already have the answers and know my lecture notes before I've written them on the board!!  |

Man, if I could only get them to copy the sentences I give them off the board, then we'd be getting somewhere.  |

It basically says that if Korea has entered into a treaty with the country on copyright that it's to follow the text of that as opposed to general copyright law, but that if the company abroad has been abusing Korean copyright rules then that can be nullified.
(PS if somebody can find the entire English text of this that would be nice. Haven't stumbled upon it yet.) |

I personally think that "intellectual property rights" is a load of crap perpetrated and perpetuated by greedy lawyers. The only real originality comes from God. We live in societies consisting of cheaters and the cheated (and the biggest cheaters make the laws...)  |
