Hi: I'm new to the forum. I teach two hours a day for two weeks in January, and then I'm off until the second week of February.

Philippines for 2 weeks.. a winter camp in Korea for 3 weeks.. and then back down to the Philippines for 6 weeks.

Are those camp things mandatory for your job or by your own choice for overtime pay?

Choice. Really good money.

Starting the 28th of this month I have 9 glorious weeks off; with no classes or attendance at school, before returning to NZ for good.

But to be honest classes have finished for me already. I've got a week of oral testing, a week of final exams and a week of students doing creativity classes, cleaning, half days and general time wasting. I've already cleaned out my desk and looking forward to the end. yay!

I have no idea yet. It seems that most EPIK teachers get a good portion of February off. I hope it's the same for me.
Regarding overtime pay: My contract states in article 7 that I am not to receive any extra pay for classes conducted while school is in recess. Does anybody else have this in their contract? I signed the contract from abroad, not knowing what is the norm. I hope they don't pile all of the camps on me since they don't have to pay me any overtime.

It's mandatory for me; but then again, I cannot complain too much. I do a one-week camp in the first week of January and that's it. I get paid my regular salary for ten hours of teaching. My contract finishes at the end of January, so I have February off with no pay unless I pick up some temporary gigs somewhere before I start my job in March at a new place.

I think my wife and I may be doing something either in Moo-joo or Jay-joo over Korean New Year's with another couple, but not sure yet. A little R&R is definitely in order.

Yep, mandatory for me. Wouldn't do it if I didn't have to. I'm not that motivated by money.

Supposed to be doing two weeks. However no one (and I mean NO ONE) appears to have any idea of (a) when I start. (b) how long the days will be. (c) when it will finish. (d) if I get paid or not (the contract doesn't specifically mention this) All that they know is that it will be two weeks. Probably haven't started planning this yet.

Pass. No idea until I am told. Although, I have already hatched my escape plan Laughing

Do you care to share it with the rest of us? I will certainly be at my elementary school for winter camp, but I am open to suggestions about how to escape and get the rest of the time off.
