I forgot to mention that at my (technical) high school the students were doing Let's Go 5 and Let's Go 6, but the previous teacher taught them without the flash cards - or even the teacher's book. Although the school ordered a teacher's book for me, they were unwilling to buy the flash cards - so naturally I spent like ninety bucks (and will leave them behind for the next lucky teacher...)

By the way, for "real" teachers in the United States, it is completely normal for teachers to spend a lot out of pocket for their classrooms. I think there was a tax credit of $250 available for teachers for a few years for this reason. So a lot of it might come down to whether you are a career teacher or just doing it for a few years of kicks in Korea.

Depending on what book/series you are using, some of these books require a lot of extra stuff...and without it you can't do a lot of the activities in the teacher's guide. So that means your classes will suffer.
It will be much harder for you to keep kids interested and focused on the vocabulary.

I recently heard one of the Korean teachers say, "foreign teachers shouldn't need a tape, it's better if they don't have one". Rolling Eyes

Yeah, I'm just automatically going to "know" everything in the book.

I spend about 50,000won a month on "stuff" for my kids. I really enjoy seeing them get enthusiastic about things and to me it pays for itself. I dont find candy that big a motivator, the good kids still work hard and the bad kids still doze or chatter. This months advent calander however has shown marked improvement in all students attention levels. Its something about the fundamental mystery of what candy is behind a cardboard window that appeals to all kids! Smile

I've spent 50,000won on decs too, but I'm nabbing em back when it comes to the Xmas weekend. This way I have decs for my room and I also have a tonne of wonderstruck kids.

I went from commuting into London into a job I hated for the same pay I get here (it was a REALLY low paid job) office work sucks royally too. Instead of the daily 28,000won I was spending on travel I send it home. I dont see spending a small bit of cash for school a problem in any way.

A lot. But that's my choice. Pizza after a book is finished and cancy for every ten stickers (and I give those out freely). Just think about the pizza. Ouch. I bought 4 pizzas and one chicken two Friday's ago and 2 pizzas last Wednesday. I have maybe three or four more to buy after the other classes finish their books. And middle school, too. I'm screwed.

Do they every go through those glitter glue pens quickly! Looks like I'll be buy four or five new packs tonight. But they're so happy! It's been a while since I've had classes growning because the bell went.
