Has anyone taught using the "English Land" book series by Disney and Longman? I think it's a fairly new series.

My school is going to use them for our winter camp and possibly include them into our curriculum in January.

I've only had a chance to thumb through them quickly but they looked pretty decent. Quality presentation, relevant content, good workbook exercises, loads of support material, etc��

Has anyone actually used them? What was your impression? Any tips on using them?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have the unfortunate task of using them now. While I don't mean to dis the series, I think the books are well thought out in some ways.

Make sure you get the materials that go with the books or you will be lost a lot of the time.

The teacher cards are way overpriced so I imagine you won't be getting them, but be sure to get the Class CD's at least so you can learn the songs and make sure you get a copy of the teacher's manual for each level you are teaching. There is a lot of prep involved in teaching each lesson properly, if you don't have the cards (and you probably won't) it means a lot of photo copying on your part.

You will need things like "scissors, sets of crayons, perhaps some tape and glue" These things are often required as part of the lesson, so make sure you have enough on hand.


This is not a textbook that can be used on it's own. You absolutely NEED the teacher's book and the CD or tapes. The lack of cards can be worked around if you can get some cheaper cards from another series and some basic phonics cards you should be able to make due.

I checked today and luckily we have everything; CD's, teacher cards, phonics cards and teacher guides.

If you have all the stuff, great. I think it's a good book/series if you have all the materials and the time to prepare before class.

I like English Time as well, but I think this book does some things better than ET. The problem is getting aquainted with the book and how the lessons are supposed to work. In most places I've worked, I never really have enough time to do that much prep, not that I wouldn't like to, but usually I am not sure what class I am teaching early enough to prepare properly. That's where ET is better because I know the book and I can usually just walk in and teach.

With English Land, everything is new. All the songs are newly composed so there is nothing familiar that you can fall back on. The lessons are set up in a simple enough way, but if you don't have the time to read through the teacher's manual, you will probably be spending a lot of time going, "hmm, I wonder what I'm supposed to do here".
