no, this isn't really a job ad. I've been translating a few Korean articles from the internet just for fun and I thought I'd open them up for the public and see if people can't give me a hand.

They're pretty interesting stuff, one of them totally slams English teachers and will probably get a reaction from some of you. Others are pretty mild. The first two are more or less complete (to the best of my ability) but the second two are in really shi**y shape.

They are on the Korean Wiki, a web page that anybody can edit. So, get cracking, if you want.

Here's the link:

I can't believe the one about English teachers, or the one generalizing about foreign male/ Korean female relationships. I think it's totally inappropriate to have that kind of material posted as fodder for translating. I love the solution- just hire female foreign teachers! Rolling Eyes The guy says "I've worked with over 100 english teachers, and I can count on 1 hard the amount who have been sincere". I guess he and I don't roll with the same kind of crowd. Can I translate the article like, "I am the writer of this article, and I have small man syndrome. I am very jealous of foreign men. I secretly wish I was a foreign man", etc., etc?

true. the writer comes off as bitter nerd with no girlfriend. I think we cann all agree that the writer is retard. The important thing is that it WAS written and it is currently floating around on the korean side of the internet, safe and snug behind the language barrier. until now. (not that any of these opinions were any secret, but anyways)

but then again, i've only translated 60% of this crap. There's a part where the writer talks about the common arguments on behalf of english teachers. And he mentions that one argument is the fact that Korean dudes are always taking sex tours to Thailand so who are they to talk about us. He then goes on to respond to this (at least it seems that way), but it's full of words that I don't know and i'm do lazy to get out the old dictionary. But I'm really curious what his response could be.

well, there are times when the original text used ״ and and then there are times when I translated stuff as "he" when there wasn't actually any sex specified. All those kind of issues will have to be worked out.

I like this part:

Quote:
Broadcast it through the mass media to the korean people (especially at women's universities) that in the average month an English teacher has sex with 4 to 10 korean women. (translator's note: hahaha)

And where did they get those figures? I don't remember answering any survey. Confused

Guru... I'm sorry, I was supposed to contact you as part of the survey. However, as a foreign teacher, I was too busy having sex with somewhere between 0.133333 to 0.333333 K women every day. Please accept my apology and assurance this oversight will not be repeated. Laughing

Yes, but you're not a teacher and neither am I. We would throw the stats right off. Cruisemonkey is doing his job to keep them stable though which is very commendable.

Guess us married men are making the stats look pretty bad for you single teachers. Exclamation

I assume this means I will have to get married and obtain greencards for my mate 4 to 10 times per month.
