Hello all,
I'm looking for feedback on this Hogwan. I've tried doing a search on Language2020 School on this site but keep coming up blank. Anyone out there heard of the school or have any experience with the director in Chuncheon --Mr. Lim?
It's my first time in Korea (but not overseas) and it feels strange to be starting all over in the job-search game! So far, seems like a pretty reasonable contract, standard pay, working hours, etc.
I've asked about the company's history, current number of returning teachers, school support given to teachers, student numbers and discipline, guarantees about teaching at least some adults, holidays, pics of the school and housing provided, conditions of the airline ticket, etc. and received adequate responses. Can anyone think of anything else I should be checking out?
I must admit I'm a rather terrified about Hakwons now, after reading all the negative posts...just happy at this point to talk to an actual school director (as far as I know...) instead of a heap of faceless recruiters...
Anyway, if anyone knows anything about this school, please send me your feedback. No red flags so far...would just appreciate confirmation that I'm not walking blindly into a minefield...
Thanks in advance! |

Uni degree won't be ready until late December so the earliest I can leave would be late January.
How did you select the school you're going to? |

Sorry, I don't know anything about the school, but I have been to Chuncheon. We went there a couple times and liked it a lot. Big enough to have the advantages we'd want in a bigger city but clean air and lots of interesting outdoor stuff to see and do.
I'm interested in that school myself, if I want to come back to Korea later. We plan to return to the U.S. when my contract is finished in the spring, but might come back here again.
If you do end up there please p.m. me and let me know how it works out.
Thanks,
Margaret |

I heard that the school was to open January 2002 but, because of a dispute
with building contractors, it is still closed until further notice. |

Did you speak to anyone who is currently working there? |

I guess there are quite a few factors you should consider when choosing a school. Work out your personal objectives (salary, students, work environment, benefits etc...) but most importantly ask to speak to someone who is teaching there now and ask them everything you want to know. |

Even better, speak to someone who has worked there and FINISHED A CONTRACT.
Sometimes that is the only way to get a straight answer. It's amazing how someone's attitudes towards their school can change in a month or 2.
Especially beware of people who have only been there a month or so, they really don't know much more than you do about what to expect in the coming months, although they can answer some direct questions about books, materials, class sizes etc.
Anyway, good luck. |
