I had to laugh at this part:
"Thanks to the wonders of Sarbanes-Oxley, management does not get a free Xbox 360..."
I'm probably the only person on the planet that gets a warm fuzzy when I hear "Sarbanes-Oxley". Sarbanes-Oxley is an accounting law passed after the whole Enron thing. It forces corporations to document their accounting and be more transparent. It's a new level of paperwork.
Back when I worked for a dot.com, around when I was laid off, the new Sarbanes-Oxley came into effect. I was actually quite keen to be laid off, as I wanted to get the severance pay and then go to Korea to teach but I didn't want to go so quickly. I wanted to really go when my lease was up. Sarbanes-Oxley ended up creating a couple weeks of paint monkey work for me, putting a couple thousand in my pocket and letting me exit out of my lease gracefully. |
