We are looking for full-time English instructors with a professional attitude, a passion for teaching all age groups and a willingness to be flexible. Preference will be given to female and couple applicants.
Salary and Benefits:
1. Monthly salary: 1.7 million won
2. Vacation: 3 weeks in the summer and 3 weeks in the winter plus all national holidays.
3. Overtime: 20,000 won per hour.
4. Medical Insurance
5. Match all payments paid to the Korea Teacher's Pension which is returned at the successful end of employment.
6. At the successful end of the contract a bonus of one month's salary will be paid.
7. Housing: - a non-shared efficiency unit in the dormitory on campus
A charge of 50,000 won per month is deducted for utilities.
Responsibilities:
- teach a minimum of 15 hours per week for 46 weeks.
- be available to students for personal consultations
- maintain and provide all records as required by the university

Sounds pretty cra-zappy as uni jobs go, but it might be worth taking to get uni experience to get you into a better job.

These are the red flags I see. It sounds like you're going to get railroaded into teaching kids classes either on or off site, and I can't help but wonder what the maximum number of teaching hours is so you know when you'll get overtime. Somehow I have a hunch that the magic number isn't 15.
In the four years I've been here, uni job conditions seem to have taken a nosedive, lower pay, shorter vacations, and class sizes were always bigger. Plus, a lot of unis seem to have re-signing limits.
Are these jobs our future? |

| The thing that would make that job go from bad to great is adding another 1 to that 1.7 to make it 2.7. Honestly I doubt I will ever work for under 2mil/month. I just can't leave on such a low salary. |

1) hahaha.
2) Is that 3 weeks minimum? My place says something like 8 weeks a years, but they tell you you get a lot more than that. (but 46 weeks a year, nope. That's all your getting.
3)Overtime...20,000 wtf. That's seriously low.

7) Dorm...yuck. The 50000 a month is the only thing I see that is good in this contract. Have your computer on 24/7. If you are a heat freak like my wife...you could save some coin.
I still don't know where they are getting that 46 weeks from. Everyone I know from their unis work 32 weeks a year. Some work the camps, some are paid overtime. Even then????
Try to find out two things about this "university" is it a hagwon with a uni name? Or is it the Uni hiring you for off campus work. A lot of the unis are hiring for the middle/high schools in their areas.
It might be worth it if it is 15/1.7 mil and you can get some extra coin somewhere. |

It is for Kwangju's women university. Every thing seems a bit average to me, except the pay!
