Two paws up, go see it when it gets to Korea.
It's running out, and everything is connected.

I just saw "Syriana" too.
It's really good, although it bored my wife to tears.
If you're a political junkie it's a must see
It's very similar in style to "Traffic".
If you're a US soldier, I doubt you'll want to see this one though. It will make it harder to spew the required rhetoric about freedom and democracy with a straight face... |

What he said.
The A&E special on SYRIANA was even better! Damn! The whole Chinese thing was really good. No more talk about it here though, don't want to kill it for anyone. |

It refers to oil, and how in the larger scheme of things the various sub-stories in the movie ultimately coalesce.
I personally think the phrase "Everything is Connected" diminishes the poster a bit; it's true, yes, but it makes the movie sound like some absurdist dystopion future type movie where emotions are outlawed or something... perhaps the phrase is just too blunt for a movie that is so layered and complex.
Why am I rambling about this??? |

Wasn't that the ship that ran aground in Alaska, the Valdez?, just renamed the Condoleezza Rice? How is that connected? |

I haven't seen it yet, and so hesitate to comment.
The trailer troubled me, though.
This flick seems to be putting forward the "peak oil" myth, ie, conditioning the public to believe that "fossil fuels" are rapidly running out, that price run-ups are thus inevitable, and that wars over oil are unavoidable.
(Warring for oil is preposterous on the face of it: why not just buy the stuff? America is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on this Iraq fiasco, not to mention thousands of lives and seriously compromised military readiness, WITHOUT getting a better deal on oil. OK, get it? Enough said?)
By CLOAKING its sinsiter and deceitful message in anti-establishment guise, the film plays trojan horse.
American propaganda is exceedingly subtle in this way.
Make no mistake, Americans are not nearly as dumb as they pretend to be. OK, so maybe they can't read and write too well, but they've got STREET SMARTS.
Hollywood lies like nobody's business. It does so by offering you something that LOOKS GOOD, something you as a thougtful, educated person SHOULD want to take, while at the same time implanting a PRO-establishment meme in your psyche.
Don't believe it, folks. Oil is generated abiotically from deep below the surface of the earth, and will remain abundantly available for many, many centuries to come.
The Anglo-American attempt at subduing the entire earth will go on and on and on, meanwhile--until finally pushed too far, at which point, expect trouble. America is FAR from being the world's only superpower, as Russia or China will prove today or tomorrow if pressed.
And Iran won't be any pushover, either. The great Anglo-American march of folly may just run out of stamina once and forever on the road to Teheran.
"You heard it here first!"

Of course and the ozone layer is not damaged, weather is not changing, intelligent design is a smart idea and best of all I saw santa claus, the easter bunny and the tooth fairy at the bar the other day.

Is this seriously the best you can do?
I mean, seriously?
You've never once in your life been presented with an idea that you at first disbelieved and then were forced to reconsider?
Do you SERIOUSLY believe that anyone who holds views at variance with yours must be so naive that he believes in Santa Claus?
You assume that anything outside your mental horizons must be below you. ABOVE you is apparently not something you're even about to consider?
Google "abiotic oil" and read up on it.
Notice, by the way, if you will, that I manage all this without emoticons. Forget emotion. Let's use our brains to think seriously about serious issues. Prove to me that the oil's running out, or at least make a solid, persuasive case for your point of view, and I'll do my best to evaluate your contentions rationally. Meanwhile, I find the arguments in favor of abiotic oil more persuasive.

Actually there is some pretty interesting Russian research that says just that. However, for Bee to claim it as a fact is disingenious ( sp? ). |

You do have a point: I put forward the abiotic thesis in indicative mood, and without qualifiers. Call it a rhetorical flourish, if you will.
This is NOT, admittedly, the most authoritative source, but Joe Vialls was provocative, if nothing else, and provided a lot of good jumping-off points for further research:
http://www.vialls.com/wecontrolamerica/peakoil.html
For more about abiotic oil, once again, just Google it. There's a lot out there.
